I am wondering if it is difficult to propagate honeysuckle vines like dropmore scarlet and major wheeler? Would it be a very slow process to get a decent sized vine?

In Zone 8 all you have to do is show them dirt and they'll sprout roots - Honeysuckle is invasive in my zone - they produce hundreds of seeds for months. They aren't hard to root at all. Just take a 6 inch cutting of new growth and strip the leaves of of the bottom 2 inches and stick them in the soil up to the first leaf. Keep the pot in bright shade and soil moist. You should have roots in about a week or two.

Another way to propagate honeysuckle is serpentine layering. Simply bend a piece of the vine to the soil (on the ground or pot) and cover with soil. Be sure to bury at least one node and you may want to pin it down so that it doesn't accidentally come out. Some people recommend wounding the plant slightly other say it's not necessary.

Each year I propagate Honeysuckle to give away at our local plant swap. I use landscape pins at each node to secure a length of vine to the soil surface, then cover lightly with mulch.
