It has come to light that an incorrect plant has been distributed though out the United States, sold as S. 'Lone Star'.
Many of us have this incorrect plant. This is what the incorrect semp looks like. This photo was taken in Sept.


I am so sad to lose this semp to the category of NOID.

I will look at mine today but almost sure it is the imposter but isn't it a beautiful semp?

It is such an interesting semp through all seasons. I am so sad. But looking forward to getting the correct one. Hope it will be as much fun as this one.

You can call it whatever you want to call it in your garden. Even Kyla's Renegade, just don't send it out with that name, too easy to start another problem.

And of course I'm not fussed about it. I'm new enough to all this I have very little invested besides a little money and some time. No biggie to me at all.

But intriguing! and I hope you will share some of how you found out The Truth About the Semp!

I was doing a search for bloom photos for 'Lone Star', and found that the rosettes were totally different from what we all have. So researched further. The original source for the wrong one has gone out of business, which is a shame, because they were a great semp nursery. Even the best of them have errors. That is why we try to work closely with the remaining nurseries. They are treasures in the semp world, and we don't have enough of them as it is.
That's why we all try to support them through sales. It also shows us that it is our responsibility as semp collectors to research before buying.

Anyone who received 'Lone Star' from me also received the wrong plant. Very sorry!! Lynn, thank you so much for continuing your detective work and keeping our database cleaned up!

That poor Noid banned into the wilderness looks to be a lovely semp . Is there no way it can be renamed and given a new lease of life ?

Sadly no Paddy. It already has a name, we just don't know what it is. If we gave it another name it would only confuse things further.
But, we can still love it and give it a home somewhere in our gardens.
