I am on vacation, and in my zeal for better landscaping started lining the edge of my flower bed. It is a curved bed edge and after trying a couple of stone combinations, I found one that worked for me, but the trajectory of the border is headed straight for a herbaceous peony (Sorbet).

My understanding is that the main reason for not moving a peony this time of year is that the plant forms buds this time of year. Is that correct? This particular peony has never bloomed, and is still fairly small, so I am thinking that might not be a concern. Also, we're headed into a week that is moderately warm, with intermittent rain.

Please excuse my messy garden below - you can't see the peony for the lilies, but I'm thinking of moving some of the irises to put in the peony.

If you are home to keep it moist, then I think you could move it.
I would not do any transplanting in this heat unless it can be watered regularly.

After a day of reflection, I think you're right. I'll have to finish my project in the fall. There will be plenty of cool weather later on.

Want any irises? Rhubarb? Egyptian onions?

No thank you Dora---I already have more plants than I can handle here!
And I am going away.

Ah well – worth a try. I might have to eat the Egyptian onion.

Thanks. Minnie looks like she is squinting in that photo.
