June 30 was national "Social Media Day" in the USA. That might mean we have too much time on our hands, but it made me think.

Is ATP a social medium?

It's primarily about plants, but people discussing things are still people being social.

And I know that I check in here to chat with friends more often than check in with a burning garden question or to "share" some "ground-breaking insight" like "seedlings die if you totally drown them for days on end".

I think that must mean that I spend hours per day on social media!

It's like when I found a book I was looking for in a bookstore category I wasn't ready to admit that I would ever look in. I thought that series of novels was kind of like occult science fiction: Kelly Armstrong's Women of the OtherWorld series.

To my embarrassment, I learned that day that all those years I've been enjoying a series of novels from the "occult ROMANCE" section!

I've been enjoying ROMANCE NOVELS all these years??

I generally describe ATP as "a social media website dedicated to gardening."

I think "social media" basically means an interactive website that is more than just forums. We have a lot of extra features that make it interactive, like the database and the acorns and thumbs and all that. It's constantly changing and there's no stuff to see every time you load the homepage. All that interactivity between members is what makes it "social" as far as I can tell.

That's a good definition, once I get past "Wait, you mean that I like a social medium??"

P.S. I think you had a typo, "no" for "new".

This sounds more like the current state of your first garden website:

"... there's no stuff to see every time you load the homepage."

I think it is good that @RickCorey is getting paid by his boss to do all this deep thinking that results in long complicated posts. Think about it; if we had to pay Rick by the word, we could not afford his talent. Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing

Now I can't get that scene from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest out of my mind.

Enough inmates break out to fill a bus, so they steal an Asylum bus.

They want to rent a boat (? I think that was it?) but Jack knows no one would rent to a bunch of escaped mental inmates.

So he introduced the boat owner to "Doctor This" and "Professor That".

Boy, as SOON as you put "Doctor" in front of their names, their symptoms and tics started to look like eccentricities.

Yes, therapy. Need it, got it right here, never goin' anywhere else.

That is because our ATP is not medium; it's above average and therefore much better for everyone.

GOOD point!

Sometimes when I watch Dave and Trish's videos, like N-A-R-Raffle videos, I think "That's like a "Reality" TV show ... but with NICE PEOPLE! Can they DO that??!??"
