Interesting.

I don't know much but -- dill is a big beneficial attractor in my garden too. Other plants with umbel flowers are also good, like parsley and yarrow.

But, like my avatar says, wildflowers are the best attractors. Smiling I know they usually aren't invited to the garden but maybe they can be left to grow nearby somewhere. Right now, the Black-eyed Susans are full of bugs, some bad but many good. But I guess it makes sense that the good bugs will follow where they can find the pests that they like to eat.

I would have to say the top five beneficial plants are all native species that were here before eurpoean arrival.

Cup/compass plant

wild burgamot

milkweed

asters

and golden rods.

These will draw in every bee and butterfly in for miles.

I was in KY and WV last fall when the Goldenrods were blooming and they definitely attract a huge number of butterflies. For Floridians, I'd have to add Spanish Needles (Bidens alba) to my list because it's a great nectar plant for many butterflies and it hosts the Dainty Sulphur! I always try to keep some blooming around the yard.
