Hello, I did not see a July seedling thread, so here I go.

Very blotchy, I have had many FFO's like this one, should inprove.
Thumb of 2015-07-02/GDJCB/743bd2
Very nice Apple red, only 18" scape, 5.5" bloom, I know there are a thousand of these, but this one is mine, and I love it, very nice for a FFO.
Thumb of 2015-07-02/GDJCB/bf4049
This is a large bloom on a decent scape, that continues to get better. I love the edge, 3rd bloom, has got less blotchy with each bloom.

Gale - Thanks for starting the July seedling thread. Thank You!

Boy! That red one of yours is a beautiful color! Very, very nice! Your last photo bloom is showing that seedling's blooms really shaping up nicely. Did you ever figure out what is causing the blotchy blooms? I see that once in a while on my seedling blooms, but not very often.

Becky, I have no idea. They are all in the same bed, and receive the same care. I would say that about 1/3 of them have started this way, but most have improved over 3-5 blooms. I would guess that it is genetics, but really, I have no idea.

Gale - I find it intriguing that is happening with some of your blooms. I see it too, but not very many. Glad that it is clearing up though after the first few blooms. When I've seen it happen on mine, they are seedlings in different areas of my yard. I was thinking it might be something to do with my fertilizing because some of the ones I saw it happen on, I think those are seedlings I missed when I fertilized in early Spring. They were in areas I forgot about, so they got fertilized much later than the rest. I was thinking I may have fertilized them so late that it caused the splotchiness on the blooms, but like you ... I don't really know.

I have a few Shirley farmers seedlings that I got from her daughter after she passed. These were ones that Shirley never got to see bloom and I just had to give them a home. They are looking nice in our school garden nodding

Cindy - Lighthouse Rose Bouquet X Sexy Sally caught my eye. I especially like those sepals! Just wondering about your Flutterbye crosses. Do they all produce short scapes, or do you get some tall ones. I crossed it with my tall True to Whim seedling below, and wondered if I could get tall babies out of it.

True to Whim X Persian Pattern - best scape has 23 buds this year. Most of the others are 15-18 buds.

I wondered if the 1st through possibly the 2nd year that the scape height may not be showing true until the 3rd year? Most of my current seedlings are 1 or 2 years old. I am curious to know what these seedlings will produce in their 3rd year.

I would love to hear what others with longer experience has to say about such plant traits.

Edited to add:

I am loving those UFs and Spider types many of you are growing! Very, very nice looking blooms! And of course, I love all the rest too! Spiders are becoming more of an interest to me.

Debra, I am getting both short scapes and tall scapes with my Flutterbye crosses. Jester's Collar is a shorter scape like Flutterbye but the Skinwalker cross with Flutterbye is very tall.

Cindy- Good to know what kind of results come from using Flutterbye!

Becky - Several of my seedlings have not shown their true height or branching or bud count until the third year. I'm beginning to think it takes me 3-4 years to know what a seedlings' stats are.

Welcome! David, welcome to ATP! Your Amber Spyglass baby looks like it's going to be a great northern opener. Nice color and edge! Your J.T. Davis X Great White has a lovely bloom too! Did it inherit that fabulous foliage from Great White. I find most of my seedlings out of Great White do inherit the nice foliage but also GW's trait of multiplying as slow as molasses.
