Though I have more peonies than the space I have to grow them, somehow I still sneak in more than a few every year. Looks like this year will be no difference. I have 3 coming from Swenson and 3 from Adelman: Candy Stripe, The Fawn, Green Lotus, La Perle, White Frost, Pink Fernleaf. I am considering getting some tree peonies from Tree Peony Garden but have not decided what to get. Looks like I will have to convert more lawn to peony bed. Is anyone in the same predicament?

Anywhere there is grass is fair game Hilarious!

I have tried to keep order numbers lower as I am working on saving some room for some seedlings to grow out. Still I think I have small orders from Swenson, Adelmans, Solaris farms and Fina. Under ten I think, but each has been on my list for years. I tend to have an ongoing "list" that I pair down every year.

I also ordered from Adelmans--Class Act, Dolorodell, Felix Supreme, Missie's Blush and the pink fernleaf. Just put in an order from Tree Peony Garden for 5 new trees, Hua Hu Die, Kao, Luo Yang Hong, Xue Shan Qing Soung and Yachiyotsubaki. Gilbert Wild's fall selections are out and there are a few that I'm planning to order there--Astarte, Liberty Bell and a few buy 1 get 1 frees, Negricans, Westerner and Allen P McConnell. They also have a few spider daylilies that I'll probably order, too. They have a new coupon code for 10% off of $100 or more plus free shipping, use 15FC if you decide to order!

I would like to add a few very fragrant herbaceous peonies that don't need staking and whose foliage remains beautiful until frost. Ones that smell like roses would be highest on my wish list. Any sggestions?

Most of the rose scented peonies are old fashioned Grandma's type of peonies and they are very floppy. You will have to provide support for them if you want their fragrance. For me, Myrtle Gentry, Madame de Verneille, and Laura Dessert have a pleasant rose scent. Please know that no scent from any peony is comparable to the rose, IMHO.

And Laura Dessert is a lovely peon

Hidden Springs Flower Farm: Fragrant Peony Laura Dessert
Double Anemone form, may have a pink cast to petals and a distinct lemon yellow ball of petals when first open. Strong grower and quite generous bloomer. Holds color nicely when cut early and brought in for display where its fragrance can be admired. The foliage is a very healthy dark green. One of my top 10 personal favorites. Plant in full sun.

I have ordered about 20 peonies, all but two are herbaceous. They are for the botanical garden (donation) to fill out their Gold Medal Winners. I hope they all arrive as ordered but we know how that goes. We will plant them in the research plot and find out what was really sent next spring. Hopefully by then we will have more space in the main gardens for them. I hate to plant them in one spot this fall then in another next spring but not much choice.

One of the horticulturists planted many new ones last year but many died. I have pretty much pinned down the ones that died. That leaves the ones he planted and didn't label. All in one bed and all deep red or wine colored doubles. Very difficult to tell apart, if not impossible for us. None of us are experts in peonies.

Hi y'all, here are my peonies that I ordered in March from Swenson's, for fall delivery.

1 JAPANESE ITOH
1 SHINING LIGHT
2 SCARLET HEAVEN
1 ETCHED SALMON
1 JOKER
1 LORD CAVIN
2 THE FAWN

I also have 4 peonies that I bought this spring from 2 local nurseries, that are still in their pots, and they'll get planted in the fall. Now I'll have to figure out where all of these plants will be going.

Now since I have not heard of any of those----will have to research those!
Quite a list! I hope they all grow well for you.

They are probably cultivars for warmer climates? and that is why I have not heard?

Do you know the hardiness ratings?

WHOO HOO Annette!! I got the Japanese Itoh, Shining Light, Lord Calvin and The Fawn last year. All did well considering our lousy spring with 10" of snow on Mother's Day but the only one that bloomed was Lord Calvin. I was actually disappointed in it's bloom, it had almost no color in it, but I'm waiting for 2nd year blooms to be better! You seem to have much better success with peonies so yours will probably bloom next spring, maybe we'll have 1st bloomed pictures the same year!
Caroline, I've never seen the Japanese Itoh anywhere other than Swenson's. I ordered it primarily because of the unusual color advertised for the foliage; it's supposed to be a dark blue-green. I can honestly say there wasn't a significant difference in color from any other darker green though from this spring. It's a semi-double yellow with no streaking. IF the foliage is darker and blue-green it should be a really pretty contrast.

Believe it or not this year's order is smaller than last year's. I spent months over the last couple of years getting raised beds ready so it's really easy to plant. I've been lucky enough that the orders have arrived during different weeks. If it goes that way this fall and as long as I plant within a couple of days of arrival so I can break it down into several smaller jobs instead of a single big one it'll be doable.
