They had all their succulents on sale for 1.00 3.00 and 5.00. I had competition from another customers. It was only the two of us putting plants in our carts. When we got to the counter she wanted to trade cuttings with me.

She said she is a florist and do a lot of weddings and succulents are her most requested for Bridal Bouquets and the tables for displays. I was shocked. I did not think they would be out selling flowers, but that is what she said.

It is late and I will get some picks of what I picked up soon. I did not buy too many. Only one that I have wanted and was eager to purchase was Crassula Hummel Sunset.

Oh man, I have to check my Lowes.

Just what I need. More plants. I just got some more and the look my wife gave me. I also starting to put together a order from Mesta Gardens. Some really nice rare plants there. and mostly under $4. Most are seedlings so they have a more complete root system. I also find seedlings more stronger or hardier than stem cuttings. Same could be said with offsets.
I still got my Aloe poly hybrids to plant up in their own pots. Can't believe how big they got and how much water they were exposed to. Most are not the poly type as we started to believe. But some very nice different kinds.

Stush I really resisted a lot I could have purchased when I saw them for 1.00. I was tempted to just take my hand and rake them all in to the cart.

There were 5 shelves. Big ones that they wanted 30.00 for in beautiful pots for 3.00. They had a beautiful yellow needle cactus. I know it is common but it was so big it was in a large floor pot that was 50.00 for 5 bucks. I have one big cactus that is ugly that I am still trying to decide what to do with it so I walked away.

I am trying to accumulate enough different succulents to put together a lot of combo baskets. So there are less pots to bring in for the winter and to make a lot of nice display pots for the sunroom. It will get me through the winter when I am depressed seeing all the snow I want to see some pretty plants with my morning tea.

Wow. I saw some of those $30 pots and if I was with you, I don't think I could have resisted. I never see them reduce their plants so I guess it was time. This could spell divorce for me if I go. So I best stall away for now. I was thinking of a giant greenhouse for winter but can't think of a cheap way of heating it. I saw one a friend build that was heated by hot water pipes under the tables where the plants are placed and used a big woodburner for the heater. Was home made and worked great if you got a big supply of wood. Stand along stack 15 ft. high so you could burn anything that burns. All papers any wood, pine included. He died and all is gone. Shame.

I know Stush. I thought for a minute even if I give the plants away the pots would be worth the purchase.

I have enough room to house the plants through the winter I just do not want to bring them inside. It is all the carrying back and forth that I no longer have the energy to accomplish the task. When summer is over I start to not care and my energy goes out the window.

Same happens to me. It's called growing up. Why didn't it happen to us sooner.

The pot on the right has 4 different plants. They were small and falling out of their pots so I just put them together for awhile until I decide which pot they will be put in combo pots. My plants grow better combined.

I'm trying my best not to buy anymore plants.
I already bought a replacement Kumara plicatilis(Which is the new name for Aloe plicatilis) being a replacement is my excuse for buying it.

Good haul Cinta! The Lowes nearest to our city did not have such sale. I think with our ongoing drought, succulents are in demand here, so no reason to sell it low.

You found some goodies there Cinta. I'm glad that our Lowes doesn't mark down too many plants too often. I have to pass the store everytime I go toward town and it's so tempting just to stop by and see what they have. Lately, DH has been giving me the evil eye and begging me to stop buying plants. I can't promise that, especially not when I find something exotic at a bargain price. But, I'll at least slow down and be more discriminating about the plants I choose, especially those that I have to overwinter indoors. I keep telling them that they are not all for me, but I do buy for friends as well. I don't think that he believes me.

I do give away a lot of plants. Many times I buy some plants just to see if I can grow them without killing them. When I go to the thrift store I look for little pots that I can put little succulent cuttings in and take them to the senior home and the Senior rehabilitation center. They do not need to be watered and they do not die.

I go to the thrift store and pick up pots so they have a live plant in something that can cheer them up. The seniors love sparkly pots. I think sometime if I just brought the pot they would be thrilled. I always look for pots that have different animals, or a familiar shape like shoes, cartoon characters, etc. Some time I glue some sparkles, or glass stones on the pot to make them sparkle. So many of them do not get visitors not even from their family. It puts a smile on their face and it make me happy to see that I cheered someone up for the day.

That's a wonderful idea, Cinta. Seniors are very appreciative when someone takes time out for them. I enjoy the companionship of and sharing things with older people.

Some of my contemporaries/friends ask me to root cuttings for them, but can't take the time to come by my home and pick them up when they are ready, and I'm not going to be hauling plants around, especially not in this heat and won't be babying them overwinter either. From now on, if they see something they want, they will get the cuttings with instructions on how to root it themselves. That way, I'll know if they really are interested in caring for plants, or just want it because it's pretty and free. Otherwise, I will pot them up and give take them to a senior center.

I know what you mean Debbie. When my friends say "Aww that is pretty I want one" I cut it right there and hand it to them with a pot with soil and tell them "There you have one:.

They have told others do not say you want one of her plants she will give you pot and soil and send you on your way. They do know when I visit them I will be looking for the plant so they usually root it and have it around for me to see. If they do not have the plant they know I am going to have a discussion as to why they do not have the plant. That is the cost of being my friend and asking for my plants.

That's the way to go. I basically do the same with my friends when I visit their homes, or whenever I see them at a later date, I'll ask how the plant is faring. I have one friend that I kept wondering why her plants looked stressed from lack of water. Whenever I'd mention it to her, she'd always say "they don't need more water, I just watered them". One day her husband couldn't stop laughing after watching me inspect her plants. He must have seen the puzzled look on my face, so after he finished , he finally admitted that he has to remind his wife that Deborah (your plant inspector friend) is coming and your plants are leaning. Then she runs around dumping water on them shortly before I arrive. So yes she can say, "they don't need more water", as she just watered them. Mystery solved. That friend doesn't get any of my special plants.
