If you live in my neck of the woods, want some great plants at good prices, and to help put food on other folks' tables at the same time, this is the place to be on Saturday.

When: July 18th, 2015 from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Where: Downtown Garland Square
http://www.visitgarlandtx.com/...

Fresh Connections is a community garden based in Garland, Texas and operated under the auspices of Buckingham United Methodist and Springcreek Church. Every third Saturday during the summer, the garden has a booth at The Marketplace in downtown Garland. Booth rental fees go to support Good Samaritans of Garland, and proceeds from the garden’s sales go to the associated food pantry operated by BUMC. I found them last July while looking for a place to donate surplus plants and have contributed to their market sales ever since. Other community garden members also contribute plants and the garden itself sells any harvested produce not used by the food pantry.

This July will be special: There will be a larger than usual variety and quantity of plants, including nearly 40 potted Caladiums. I was a not-a-raffle winner in May and chose them as my prize. When Bill Kurek (www.caladiumbulbs4less.com) found out what I planned to do with the majority of bulbs received, he was exceedingly generous in filling the box and I can’t thank him enough. Don’t they look great?

In addition to all the plants from me and the other garden members, there will also be a handful of garden plate “flowers” I made, and some Tom Clark Gnomes/Other figures. Proceeds for these items only will be split between me and the garden. All other proceeds go 100% to the garden.

Below is a list of what I am sending, including nearly 50 named Iris gathered from my garden and from the trade/for postage generosity of ATP Iris folk; some have multiple available rhizomes. I am also sending two unbloomed Daylily seedlings I have grown from purchased seed if anyone likes the idea of adventure. Smiling Most of the plants listed here are only in a quantity of one, but there are some multiples. I will have a firmer count as it gets closer to Saturday and I finish corralling everything. I may have a few more plants to add before then, as well. Most plants will be seedling or division size in four-inch pots. The Iris will be bare rhizomes.

Debra, that sounds like a great event in your area and I know if I lived there I'd definitely be a customer! Looks like you have some great plants and garden items that you are donating as well.

You might want to post your ad over here on the Green Pages area at the "Calendar of Events": http://garden.org/apps/events/

I tip my hat to you.
I'm not sure how many folks remember to check the green pages for happenings in their area but hopefully it will be seen by other members in that part of Texas. I hope y'all have a terrific turnout for the event ... and lots of sales!

You are so right about what you get in return!! I love sharing my plants with others and knowing that they will enjoy them as much as I do. I remember the people who shared with me when I was starting out, and it was so exciting to get something from others when I was short on cash. I know where each and every plant came from, so it's a way to keep the memory of those people alive.

It is that, yes. Smiling Plus, in this case, the garden folks drop freshly harvested produce off at my house, and take me to the store if needed. Good Samaritans helped me keep my house and keep the lights on a couple of years back. A couple of food pantries helped keep groceries in the cabinets during that time, a time during which I had two teenagers and two toddlers staying with me. And...every plant I dig out frees space for something new. Whistling Hilarious!
