I have noticed a few just south of me in TN. Anyone on this forum growing them outside in zone 6? I don't have a GH and would love to try.

I put a couple of my best ones in the ground for the summer then dig them up in the fall, I am in zone 6 and they sure would never survive our winters. also they will be twice the size when you dig them up so you will be able to take cuttings.

How do you store yours thru the winter? I had gnats so bad the winters I brought pots in!!

I bring them in the house, I spray them good with the hose, when they dry off I spray with a bug spray just as extra precaution, no bugs all winter. three years ago I had 101 plants, my back room was crowded, then that winter I had heart attach and had to get rid of them so gave most of them to my daughter, none last year this year with the help of my dear friend William I have a few more to take care of. I just absolutely love them.

Do you have a farm? I see that at the top you hae horse, cattle owner. We have a farm but no cattle now just grain.

Teresa, the problem with trying to overwinter Brugs in zone 6 is that they take such a long time in the spring/summer to get going and bloom, when they've been kept dormant for the winter. I think Doris just showed her first bloom on a small plant this last week. They really need the night temps to stay above about 60 before they'll get up to speed.

If you can manage to keep just one per year going and growing indoors, in a sunny window then you'd get to appreciate the full wonders - they bloom every 4 to 6 weeks for me, sometimes year 'round. But if they go dormant from cold weather, it takes them about 2 months to wake up and start making flowers again.

They take quite kindly to being pruned back some between bloom cycles, so you could keep one to a reasonable size (large house plant, 4 to 5ft. tall and wide) Will need a sunny window and lots of water and fertilizer to keep blooming. But sure are well worth it.

Ok, so how do I chose a good one to keep? Please send some suggestions. I love the pics of the white ones with tendrils. I you can plz add some names. I am willing to trade plants for a nice size brug.

Teresa, if you can keep a couple in the house all winter they will be ready to bloom next spring, the one I showed blooming was one named for me "Miss Doris"

We could only wish, Teresa. They're all wonderful, and pretty vigorous but the bugs do love them.

Variegated types are a little less robust, Snowbank and Maya are both variegated so they're pretty plants even when they aren't blooming.

I would choose one of a color you like best, out of the range of white, peach, pink and yellows. My new double light peach "New Orleans Lady" looks to be a monster, having grown from an 18in. rooted cutting in March to already 5ft tall. I wouldn't try to keep it indoors. But my Charles Grimaldi, a nice yellow was not quite as lusty and I kept it in a 16in. pot for 4 years just by pruning carefully.

When I did the search in the Database, I just entered the word "Cream" and came up with several gorgeous cultivars. "Peaches and Cream" was the one that really caught my eye and it's variegated.
