A neighbor spotted what he described as a "most beautiful roadrunner I've ever seen with red on its head and green mixed on body." He said he tried to get a photo, but it was too fast.

Has anyone ever seen a roadrunner that looked like this? I thought maybe it was a woodpecker. I'm curious because it was on spotted on our street that goes down to the Barton Creek greenbelt. I've only seen brown roadrunners.

I wonder if someone's Ring-necked pheasant wandered off from its yard. Shrug!

I'm going to pass that along to him. Thanks, Danita! It certainly looks as described, and we do have suburban rancheros around the creek. I'll let you know.

A pheasant would be my guess too. I had a neighbor a couple of miles away who raised exotic game birds and would release them into fields for hunters. Occasionally a few birds would make it to my property and spend summer and fall. I always hoped they'd manage to establish a colony, but that never happened. They were fun to see when it happened.

We had a pheasant at our house in early spring, so pretty

I did post Danita's response, but haven't heard back from neighbor. I hope it is a pheasant that somehow escaped and is a freebird! Thumbs up
