I find that I am attracted to certain types and styles of Iris,
for me, I am attracted to Historic Iris varieties. But beyond that,
what style of Iris do I prefer? I actually prefer AMOENA (like "Wabash"), and SELFS (like "Solid Mahogany").
What are your preferences when choosing your Iris ?

Ok, well I see that no one has taken the opportunity to respond to my thread. To be honest, I think it's time I say "Goodbye" to ATP. I really don't feel welcomed here and feel that this site is a bit "click-ish"

Denman, I prefer the historicals and some of the new. I have all historicals at the moment. They are all bearded in yellow purple, blue and gold colors.

I work Saturdays and I stop in every once in a while and see what people Re talking about

In the winter time, I can sit at the computer a lot and try to think up things to gab about. Today, After 3 hours of feeding horses and cleaning stalls, I had to mow and rake the lawn. Also I had to get a load of hay for the horses. Then do my 3 hours of feeding again this afternoon. I just finished making dinner and sat down to the computer to check the iris forum while I'm eating. There are lots of forums on here, and lots of threads. It's impossible to be active on every one. I have to be selective. As Missy said, a lot of people are working outside today, as they work during the week. Also the weekends tend to be family time for many, so they aren't on here as much. Tom said it all. I was away from the computer until this afternoon. Sometime the only way I can keep up on a weekend is on my cell and it is hard to read and type on that device so I usually wait until I get home to check in. You gave us a four hour window before dismissing us all together. I was on a ladder painting from 9 am until 6 pm. I would have responded but really had no time today until after dinner. I am sorry that you are disappointed with our group. We are not cliquish, though there is a small group that love iris all year long and others that come in at certain times. Given time you would find that this group is generous, and funny, and caring, and that you can learn a bunch from them.

Today, after feeding and turning out horses, I finished mowing the pasture that I started mowing and didn't have time to finish yesterday. Then I drove to town (40 mile trip) to pick up prescriptions for myself and my husband. When I got home from that, I went out and unhitched the trailer that we used to haul in hay yesterday (which was why I didn't have time to finish mowing the pasture), then I cleaned three stalls and brought in three hot and sweaty and fly-bitten horses. My plan was to bath all three of them -- but the hydrant broke after the first horse, so I had to bring two in sweaty and clean up the water in the barn aisle instead. As I drove up the driveway to put away the truck that pulled the hay trailer yesterday, I only had time to wave to my 93-year-old Mom who was sitting on her front porch looking pretty lonely. I came in and made feed for the horses -- oh, I rested for 20 minutes to try and cool off -- it's over 90 degrees here with humidity to match -- then went back out and fed my horses and my barn cats.

What I didn't do today was mow my lawn and my Mom's -- which were each mowed three days ago and with all the rain and humidity here, need it again. And I didn't get to weed the gardens in the front of my house or my Mom's. And I didn't get to spray weeds in my riding arena, and the pasture fencelines and my Iris beds. And I didn't get to burn the trash pile that's been waiting for my attention for a month. And I didn't get to dig Irises that I've promised to send to people. And I didn't get to plant the box of Irises that I ordered and paid for from a favorite vendor. And I didn't get to give my dog a bath and grooming like I've been promising her for a week.

And you're pissed off because I didn't respond to your Iris question????? Oh. My. God.

I lurk a lot. Mainly for the same reasons as noted above. I like irises.... and iris people - but I also have a life outside of the iris world that tends to have demands that come first. This is a great group of people with a lot of knowledge ( and irissess ) to share. If you let a short window of non-respone time to a post be a reason to leave, you will be missing out on a lot.

I went outside around 1:30 and just got back inside the house at 7:30,. I still work and the weekend is my only time to be a the garden. I'm sorry if Denman will not join in anymore and it is his right the join in, lurk, or just read the threads without comments. I think the reason is he appears to be upset is from the multi. comments to the thread "Most Anticipated" . I think he thinks we did not like his desire to have only named iris in his garden. It's up to him what he wants in his yard. We were just givng an opposite view of why we like our NO ID's. We are all different and have likes and dislikes and that makes the world interesting. I love my NO ID's and would never think about not having them in my yard because they don't have a name. I re-read his post again and you can read it as him being upset (which I did) or read it without any emotion and this forum is just not for him. Lucy said it right, It is his loss.
I just what everyonel to know I enjoy all of your personalities through the written words on the threads and I have learned so much from all of you and I want to thank you all, even Mr. Denman!

Hmm, I am fairly new to this forum and I have felt welcome and everyone tries to help. It takes time, people have jobs, hobbies, family and other commitments.

Wow, that was quite a post. I felt extremely welcomed when I joined the group. I even made a few new friends and had some trades. It's been great. It took a little while to get to know who was who but that's how things work. That's how good friends are made...slowly and with effort on both sides. I've never been in a place more warm and welcoming than this bunch of folks.

So sorry you felt left out but 4 hours really isn't much time. I was at work all day and tired when I got home.

And I like a variety. Luminatas, bi-colors, amoenas, historics, ruffles, horns and spoons...

I agree with you Celia -- I like a variety too. It would be impossible for me to pick just one type of Iris as a favorite. It's much easier to pick what I DON'T like -- I don't care for Irises with speckles and splatters. Probably because I love the look of velvety-looking petals.

Edited to add: On the other hand, I love the new Irises that they're coming out with that have heavy veining on the falls!! Go figure.............

And this is the second year I have been enthralled by Luminatas.... in any height! But I do so love the MTB's in big clumps or long rows where they look like butterflies hovering over the garden. And any dwarf is mine!

I guess I prefer the bearded iris with other iris types coming in at a close second!

Yup! Variety is the spice...yadda yadda. Gotta love them all.
