This cherry tomato appeared in my front yard garden last year & was so tasty that I saved seeds and grew out some this year. It is about 1.75" long and pale yellow and slightly green on top when ripe. The large tomato is just about ready to pick. Very sweet. Any ideas on what it is?

Very pretty. I could easily just be un named type from a dropped fruit that sprouted.

I agree I have found seedlings in my garden that do not conform to anything I have planted , so guess they must have crossed .
Are the tomatoes the same as last years size , shape color? ect...
How many plants did you grow ?

So far, the tomatoes are the same size, shape and color & taste as last year. I have 3 plants growing now that came from last years seed.

Nope, not Sungold nor SunSugar. I have grown both. That pictured is greenish and both Sunsugar and Sungold are orange when fully ripe.

What made me think so was the photo you posted Aug. 4th on the thread ''whats going on in our summer and fall vegetable gardens''.

Yes, they do when not too ripe. But they turn orange when ripe while this one apparently stays pale when ripe. So can't be the same ones.

No problem in guessing though. At least we know what it's not. Still I think that plant might not be any named variety.

I grew Sun Sugar last year, and they are very small, but sweet.
I've shown the size here compared to coins. Mature color is orange.
It likely is a seedling that volunteered.

Yes, SunSugar is a nice tomato but the mystery tomato is not SunSugar nor Sungold.

Have you grown any other tomato varieties in the past that may have crossed to create this gem of a tomato? I think that is the most likely bet here.

Also, have you added any compost from an outside source to your growing area? Another potential source for where the original seed came from. Also...if this tomato is a result from a cross, saving seeds may not come true every year.

And don't forget that an F1 plant is in effect "cross-pollinating" even when it pollinates itself. The F2 offspring from a single F1 parent pollinating itself can be very varied.

But I've been told "not always - some hybrid varieties will come 'pretty true' to the parent".

it could be a halms gelbe . that is one I grow and like very much .

Newyorkrita, The GREEN-GRAPE tomato that you posted looks very much like my mystery cherry tomato. I'll compare the leaves. Your link says that the plant is quite short. My plants are growing up to 5 - 6 feet tall.

Robertduval14, Yes, lots of home made compost along with worm castings, horse & goat manure (composted)

Here's a picture of new and established mystery tomato leaves. They seem to resemble the Green Grape leaves in NewYorkRita's link. I believe the mystery has been solved!

Honestly, I have never grown that variety but the fruit just looked so much like what you posted that I thought maybe it is the one.
