Is there a listing of preferred vendors? I remember finding some great Rose catalogs online from others recommendations but now I can't remember what the names were. I was surprised there wasn't a sticky for vendors.

When we were still in Cubits, our Rose Cubit had a separate forum for "Buying Roses," and each vendor was discussed in a separate thread in that forum. The move to ATP eliminated all of our forums and simply added all the threads to this one big Rose Forum. The threads are still here, but they date back to 2010 in most cases, so you'd have to go to the earliest pages to find them.

I personally would recommend only Palatine now. The other nurseries I once would have recommended have either gone out of business or suffered a drop in quality.

Thanks! That is the one that I remember checking out but could not remember the name! I just looked at the website and recognized it.

I have gotten good own root roses from Chamblees.

I noticed that you are also in a cold climate. I have had best success with own root roses, but many roses do better grafted.

Good to hear about Chamblees!
I tried some own root roses and the only one I still have is a David Austin I got from Jackson Perkins. The others I got from Heirloom roses. Sheila's Perfume, and Portlandia are the one's I lost.

Chamblees also carries a lot of the Buck roses. I have Honey Sweet. It is one of my favorites.

Anyone recommend Rogue Valley Roses? They have a few that sound like what I'm looking for, but the band size makes me weary since I am in a cold zone. I would probably have to overwinter them indoors the first year.

Most of the mislabeled roses I've bought through the years have come from Rogue Valley, so I really can't recommend them.

Thank you! I hate when I don't get what I ordered! I spend a lot of time researching what to get, like I'm sure most people do.

I've been meaning to ask whether that magnificent cat in your avatar is a Ragdoll. Gorgeous!

They are the sweetest cats on earth. My Pepplegoose's father was a Ragdoll. As a "half-breed," Pepple doesn't have perfectly symmetrical points, but he does have the sweet Ragdoll personality. He's the light of my life.

Pepplegoose is a handsome boy! The personality was what I was going for when I got my Nanuq. When I read the description of a Ragdoll personality it made me think of my first kitty Simba's personality. I got him at the local Humane Society when he was a kitten. He was my baby for 10 years until he went missing. Around that time he was starting to seem like an old man and was very slow to get up. He had always stayed in until the last couple years my husband would "accidentally" let him out. I found a special breeder of pure white Rags online but I would be scared to get a cat that way. Anyway I wanted to find a cat with the same personality as my Simba. Of course no cat will ever replace him, I still remember the cute sounds he made every time he landed a jump it reminded me of a mix between a brrr and purr sound. It reminded me of a sound a lion cub should make. That's where the name came from. Here's Simba

Simba's precious! I'm glad he had a good long life before he went missing.

I know that sound. I love it. It's involuntary, I'm sure. It's as if there's a "brrrrt" permanently stuck at the top of the cat's throat, and the act of landing forces it out of him. Hilarious!

Yes that is a perfect description! When I'd call him to come see me he would make that sound at me. I loved it. I have never heard another cat make that sound like he did.
