How do we add a new forum dedicated to Epiphyllums (Orchid Cactus). Be great to share ideas and especially photos as blooms appear. I'm sure there will be some member interest.

Hi microb, Wow, those are really beautiful Epi's you have there! Thumbs up

We, as members can't add or create new forums, that's something that only the site administrator can do. We are allowed to start new threads on an already existing forum but for actually creating new forums, that's only possible by administration. If members respond with enough interest about wanting a specific forum for Epiphyllum, administration will create the forum.

You can't change the title of this thread but maybe you can have admin change the subject/title to read: "Is anyone else interested in a Forum for Epiphyllum (Orchid Cactus)? That way it will catch member attention and we'd see how many folks would be interested in a new orchid cactus forum! I don't grow Epi's anymore but I'd have interest in reading and learning more about them and of course seeing everyone's photos so I'll be watching to see what interest there is in a specific forum for those lovely plants!

In the past, threads on Epiphyllum have appeared in both the Cactus & Succulent Forum and the Tropicals Forum so for the time being you could start new threads in either place to share your lovely photos!

It would be interesting to have such a forum if there is enough members here on ATP to warrant one! I, for one, would be interested.

Sharon, Green Grin! Thanks so much for tagging Dave, I see that he has changed the subject line for microb! Thumbs up

I too love Epiphyllum and although I now only have one small potted Hybrid Epiphyllum (Epiphyllum 'Fruhlingsgold') and a half dead Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) growing behind the deck, I still love reading about and seeing photos of these beauties!

I love these plants but honestly think there does not need to be a whole forum dedicated to them. Jmho

A thread for them in both Tropicals and Cacti should collect the people interested.

Even for hugely popular plants like Daylilies that have thousands of cultivars and a very wide range of zones, the forum sputters and falls from the top of the active list at times. Shrug!

You never know, when you look at our current list of forums, even the specific plant ones, all seem to be pretty current with comments. Not everything has to be super active and be on the top of the list. And I believe if one forum remains relatively inactive for any length of time, it gets deleted.

Personally, I think it would still fit nicely in the current Cactus & Tender Succulents forum. If you scroll through past threads, there have been several started over the years.

Thank you Sharon and thanks Dave for getting the name changed.

Epis are really in a class of there own. Known as Orchid Cactus they get confused with Orchids and Cactus. Yes they are Cactus but not desert types that most people relate to. We could group the Forum to include Christmas cactus (there's genus name for them? and Rhipsalis etc. All very similar.
Its unfortunate that Epi blooms only last about 3 or 4 days so they are not commercially produced in volume, you rarely see them at the Big Box store garden departments and they are not long lasting cut flowers. So we need them to stand out on there own with a Forum to create more interest.
With the Epis you will get more activity from April through August as that is when folks like looking a the blooms, but enthusiasts will discuss fertilizing, propagation, diseases at anytime. We also create connections for trading cuttings etc.
People looking for new interests will see the plant name in its own forum without having to go to Cactus first and see by luck. Tropicals is much to broad. We need to get more people interested.
(Looks like Hibiscus has been going for 3 years and only has five pages of posts. The current epi post in Cactus and Succs has been going a few days and is already on its second page)

A forum's age can't really be determined by the dates of the threads in it. The Hibiscus Forum is relatively new (April, 2014). The older threads were moved from other, older forums to the Hibiscus Forum when it was created.

And just as an additional FYI. depending on how many post per page you have your setting preference at, what you see as pages of posts, someone else may only see one page. I have my preference set to show 500 posts per page so I won't get to page 2 until it hits 501. nodding

Random thought. Shrug!
Rather than a separate forum for Epiphyllims, perhaps the title of the Cactus and Tender Succulent Forum could be amended to include Epis. People who like to grow Cactus and Tender Succulents might also be the kind of folks who like to grow the Epis. (?)

Cactus, Orchid Cactus and Tender Succulents or
