Sending cash through the mail is not safe (no way to prove it was received and no recourse if it is lost in the mail); would a Postal Money order work?...since you will be going to the Post Office to mail the plants it won't require any extra mileage.

I totally agree with greene, it's NEVER a good idea to send cash through the mail to family, friends or whoever ... for any reason. If the seller doesn't accept personal checks or doesn't have a PayPal account, Postal Money Orders are the smart way to send funds. I realize that $10.00 is not a fortune but you're still taking a risk in losing that Ten Bucks if it goes missing in transit. The P.O. will not cover the loss of cash sent through the U.S. Mail.

I've received postage cash from 11 people in 2 weeks & sent their priority boxed plants with tracking # & all have been pleased & grateful for my offer. Most people are trusting, kind & hopeful. After all we are both members on respected gardening websites. I am blessed that they trusted me & it's rewarding that they are now happy owners of 8 beautiful starter african violet plants for only postage.

I still have enough assortment for 3 more surprise boxes if anyone is interested.

I am also happy that you found such trusting people and I hope those 11 people post photos of what they receive in the mail from you. For my way of thinking, just because a person signs up to be a member doesn't guarantee instant trust. As yet we don't know your name, or where you live and have not seen any photos of the plants you are offering. I've done a lot of trades on this site and on two other sites, but only after I get to know the people. Getting a 'surprise box' from a complete stranger is too risky for this old girl.

Just want to thank Trudy and post some pics of the nice plants she sent me. They were packaged wonderfully and all arrived fresh and in great condition. It can be seen that these plants were lovingly handled and cared for by Trudy.

Are the syrofoam cups just temporary? Please keep us posted with photos as the plants grow and again when they bloom.

Yes, Trudy is tabbycat. She is so sweet about the whole process as I am a completely new beginner in African violets. She responded to all my questions right away. I will keep them in the styrofoam cups until they grow bigger. As I have learned from reading various websites that African violets like to grow in pots just a bit bigger than their root systems since extra soil tends to cause rot. This is a learning process for me so I am sure I will make mistakes and lose a few but hopefully not too many. So excited! I will definitely post updates.

It sounds like African violets are similar to orchids then, Karen. Most orchids like to be under-potted rather than over-potted. Of course, other than terrestrial orchids, there would be no soil.
