Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone has fruiting pear tree. I bought a flowering pear tree 12 years ago thinking that it ws fruiting. I don't want to pull it out but would like to try grafting it with other pear trees to get some fruit. So I an looking for a few cuttings if anyone has one.

Thanks Rhapsody

did you plant a pollinator for your pear?

No, I did not know it needed another tree. It puts out blooms. Couldn't the flowering pear be the pollinator if I graft another to it?
Thanks

I don't know anything about grafting, but how would you graft a tree to another if the first is matured? I think grafting is done when the trees are very small and a like size piece is grafted to it? I think you would be better off buying a tree that is compatible for pollinating the one you have and planting it close by. Not just any pear, it needs to be one that blooms the same time as the one you have. Some bloom early season, some later season.
A great place to learn about fruit trees is Grandpa's Orchard.

No. you need new growth to graft together, It doesn't have to be a young tree. Thanks for the tip. I will look there.
