Hello, I was wondering if you could list and show pictures of your dependable iris that really do rebloom in zone 4, 5 or 6. Also that do not get caught at frost in the bud stage. Thank you!

Thank you for posting. I am kicking around the idea of hybridizing a few rebloomers. So I am looking for some that are reliable. I have daylily seedlings and really don't need to start a new hobby but oh well. lol!

Lucy, I have just FB messaged her this morning. She was a part of the SKIS club but they have disbanded. Most were older folks, many have passed on.

Teresa, Arlyn and I both grow SDB Smell The Roses and it reblooms every year for me and I have seen Arlyn post a photo of it as a rebloomers in his garden also. It is still sold by Gilbert H. Wild and is a great little guy. I had it planted in a harsh place and it still rebloomed in September each year. I moved it in July so it may not bloom this fall for me.

Bonnie, that is a pretty blue one. I was a bit surprised I thought Smell the Roses would be more of a pink or red one.

While there are no 8absolutes* in reblooming iris ( or in life, for that matter Sticking tongue out ), generally speaking, the "median" iris are better at rebloom , at least here, than the TB's.............and the reason, I think, is because they tend to bloom earlier in the spring, and have more time to make the increase needed for rebloom, later in the year.

Smell the roses has a bit of lavender in the blue. My camera makes it bluer. I too thought it would be a 'rosy' colored iris but I think it is named for its fragrance.

My medians are more tolerant of adverse conditions than my TB's are. They will bloom even if given more shade, excess water, etc.

I have several rebloomers, but the only one to actually rebloom for me is Feedback:

I am zone 7a and the medians do very well here except if they try to re too soon. If they re in September they are lovely but if they try to re in August and they are the ones planted in direct most-of-the-day sun then they fold up around 2 or 3. I have a lot of MDB's in pots. They spend the spring and fall in full sun but during the hottest days of summer I put them in dappled shade. During the winter they live on the north side of the house and do not get any warming sun. They bloom each spring.
