Well, I have been good and not looked all summer. I have been happy with my pretty blooming ones at home. Well things have slowed down so what do I do? Pop into the Lily Auction and bid on a couple and then a couple more. Geez that place is addictive!

I did win a couple from Michelle. She always send such NICE plants. I am trying not to go back but I hate for a box to only have 2!!
I won Unfolding Dreams

I'd say you scored nicely on the LA! What beauties! I, too, have been refraining from looking. It IS addicting .... I step away from the computer and go outside and weed .... if I am thinking of perusing the LA. Sticking tongue out

Lots of great plants on the LA. I wish there were fewer long auctions. Thirteen days and I forget what I'm bidling on Hilarious!
I do have a problem with the long auctions. We are less than four weeks from our average date of last frost which is pushing it. I "won" an auction for a daylily that I wanted and which had a good price which was labeled "ship in the fall." I can baby a daylily through an early frost. I asked the seller when she could ship and she replied "well after Labor Day." We had to cancel the transaction.

I don't need more daylilies anyway. Sticking tongue out I gotta go now. Time to check the LA!
I’d rather have questions that can’t be answered than answers that can’t be questioned.

I have looked a few times over the summer and saw a couple of my wants. But right now the budget is really tight for us so no buying for me.

I won six seed auctions yesterday, and am the high bidder on four more ending today. I was not planning on buying any seeds this year, but when I saw these and how cheap the starting bid was, I couldn't help but bid, and am happy and surprised to have won them, all but one for $3, the other $4, 5 seeds each cross. These will help me get the new Emmerich genetics.

I think the LA is a great place to obtain registered daylilies at a lower price than what many nurseries sell them for. But that is not always true. I've been exceedingly lucky this year getting cultivars for so cheap that I was amazed ... from online nurseries! And I got bonus plants too, which many LA sellers don't offer.

AND another great source for cultivars ... members here on ATP are some of the best sellers (and sharers) around. I perused the Classifieds here on ATP during middle to late summer for folks dividing their clumps and selling the extras for very cheap! Some of my best deals came from members selling or sharing their divided clumps. The past 12 months, I will have acquired 35 named daylilies. Most of these are even specific cultivars that I was looking for that show rust resistance. I feel like I hit the lotto or something to have so many that I wanted for very cheap. I, too, am on a VERY tight gardening budget. I never bought named and registered daylilies until this year because I didn't think I could afford them. My 300+ daylilies were all grown from seeds! Freebie seeds from generous members or cheap seeds won from the LA. My daylily collection and my hybridizing hobby got a huge boost this year with some great named daylilies! To say that I am thrilled... is an understatement! Green Grin! Green Grin! Green Grin! Thumbs up

Based on recommedations here on ATP, I have won my first bids on LA. I won Mountain Wild Flower, Ledgewoods Magic Odyssey, Voodoo Nights and A Force To be Reckoned With. They are for fall shipment, so I can't speak to the quality of the fans just yet. I'm hoping they are large healthy fans. I got a couple from Abundandaylilies and the others from Rizzo.

Pat, fall fans from the south are often smaller than spring fans. Look at the roots--they should tell you if the daylily will do well.

Thanks Arlene, I didn't realize that. Abundantdaylilies are in Florida and Rizzo is in Kansas. All plants should be arriving around the second week in September , which is good for me. The weather will be cooler and less humid.

Sabrina,

you ARE warned: once you start bidding there's no stopping... Whistling

For us in Europe it is not possible to import DL's from the USA or Canada.
Seeds however... Drooling

There are a few vendors on the LA that will import to Europe, not a lot will but there are a few.

hi Cindy!

The vendors are not the real problem...
Since this Spring importing Daylilies ( and a lot of other plants) into Europe is prohibited, unless a certificate is provided that proves that the plants are not contaminated with certain pests.. Sad
Most official nurseries in the US are willing to provide that certificate, but the costs for it are around $100 Blinking
And most have an minimum order limit of several 100 dollars... Crying

So it is not impossible, but quite expensive to order from the USA Thumbs down

The Lily Auction is bookmarked on my computer, for taking quick looks. Well I was good after my spring shipments until just recently, although there will only be a few coming if I have winning bids.
