Now that I purchased this plant I can't find any info about it not even the name. The 1st picture is of the flower but I don't think it is opened full yet. The second is of the foliage with more flower buds along the soil line. Can anyone help me out with a name and how to care for this. Sighing!

This is a Chirita orchid.

Treehugger: Wow, that is a beautiful plant and yes, it does look like it could possibly be a Chirita, it sure looks to have the same growth habit. There are a few listed in the database with photos: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

I used to grow a few Chirita's when I grew AV's and other Gesneriads. Chirita's are not Orchids, not even related to Orchids but they are beautiful plants in their own right! Once those blooms open you will be able to get a more exact ID so please post a picture of the flower when it opens.

Yes Lin I see it is not an orchid. Thank you for pointing that out. Sometimes the info I get is really off when I'm trying to ID a new plant. Here is a picture of the flower. It opened while I was away.

Lovely bloom, it reminds me of a Chritia I grew at one time ... gets quite large for Chirita:
