I know or am sure there is a few in here that has ghost train iris. I saw it today for the first time in the Schreiner's catalog and fell in love with it. Any reviews for it, be it good or bad? Also, What about the iris, Lady of Mine? When I was looking for it, it seemed hard to find. Any input.Thanks.

Sorry, I don't grow either of them. I couldn't even find a photo of Lady Of Mine. Does anybody know if Richard Ernst has a website?

Oh, I see he passed away in 2011. I'm not sure who would carry his introductions.

Hi Richard,

Seems to me that Blue J Iris has a number of Richard Ernst's introductions. but not Lady of Mine. Also have Schreiner's Ghost Train. They are not taking orders until next New Year's Day. You can get a list of Richard's introductions in the AIS Encyclopedia at http://wiki.irises.org/bin/vie....

Welcome! Charlotte You can get all of Richard Ernst's creations on ATP here, by selecting from the data base the advanced search for irises and typing in his name for hybridizer and no other criteria. It will list all of his irises.

Hello Charlotte. Welcome to the iris forum. Tom is right. We have a wonderful plant database here and it is growing every day.

Hi Charlotte, Welcome to the forum. Irises are addictive/gardening in general. Hope you stay for a while. Thanks for the help on the two irises. I saw a picture for the Lady of mine on ebay (only place I saw it) but other then that I able not been able to find it and seems hardly anyone carries it.

One note caution about the Schreiner's catalog, you might want to check other sources for pictures before deciding which irises you want to buy. You'll always get great quality rhizomes from Schreiner's, but the pictures in the catalog occasionally leave a bit to be desired.

Rick Ernst owned Cooley's Gardens which, along with Schreiner's, were two of the biggest names in the iris world for decades. There is a brief post about the end of Cooley's here: http://theamericanirissociety.... . I heard Schreiner's bought Cooley's plant stock after Mr. Ernst passed away, but am not sure if that is correct or not. They don't seem to be offering very many of his plants for sale at the moment. Shrug!

William Plotner of Wildwood Gardens (http://wildwoodgardens.net/wp-...) introduced a couple of his seedlings last year.

Oh, dang, I just had to look at the Wildwood link. The Ernst are nice, but there are some Walker's I would like!

Richard,
I just happened on your post about ghost train.
The funny thing is that when we moved to Maine last year we had several plants either bought or give to us that I had no idea about. Among them was an Iris that had no name. We were excited every day to check on daylilys, roses and the one Iris to see how they were progressing. I could tell that this Iris was doing well and seemed to like its location.
When the first flower opened I kind of thought OH! I had never seen one that color and to be truthful it didn't overwhelm me. I checked in the data base and discovered that it was "Ghost Train". It is so unique it won me over.
These pictures are from this spring, the first year of bloom

@creativeclover, Did not get to see your post till today. Ghost Train is a wonderful iris with deep blackish purple flowers. It is very prolific bloomer and blooms for a long time.
