When I post my pictures, they are all taken by me from my own gardens. If I list them as "public domain" what I am intending to say is anyone is welcome to them. Am I doing this correctly. I do not intend to suggest they were taken from the "public Domain". Rolling my eyes.
Keep in Harmony with People & Gardens

I wouldn't list them as public domain. That relinqueshes all your rights to protect the image in the future. It means anyone can take it, repost it on another website and even claim it as their own.

My advice would be to leave it as "All rights reserved" or use the Creative Commons license, which is a little more protective of your rights.

This was something I thought about. I made them Public domain as soon as I joined here as I do not mind other people "snagging" them. Now that I've been looking at more pictures here, I find many that are not taken by the people uploading them to the site. I hope the info in Photo Location is enough to show that I took the photo, such as "Wet area in my yard" or " Our Prairie to be, near Central Iowa".

Kim, definitely consider switching over to creative commons. That continues to let other people snag them, but it prevents them from being misused.

I agree - you don't want to find one day that your picture has been used for (for instance) a commercial for a product you are not comfortable with, AND without getting any compensation.

This is how I upload my own personal photos here. I want others to use them if it helps them in some way, but it allows me to at the very least be credited for them. I also upload all my plant photos on wikicommons under the same license for use across all wikis in the same fashion.
