Maybe they get mixed messages in October and run towards the guy yelling, "Do you want to be a Butterball?".

We also saw some wild turkey along the roadside this week, about half a dozen in the flock. I like your pictures especially the tom fanning his tail.

They were hanging around my house in Dec. 2013 and I made a banner photo which I never submitted. They just sort of lined up as they crossed the corner of the yard. I guess you have to click the photo to see the banner format. I love seeing the wild turkeys.

Great shot Donald Thumbs up

I wish I had my video camera with me last year around this time. It was a road crossing like your pic. I stopped the car they started running across the street but one turkey panicked.

He started running back and forth in front of my car. Finally one of the turkey came back and hit him on the head and he stopped and followed him to safety. I was laughing so hard I could not start driving again for awhile.

All I could think of was the movie with Cher when she smacked the guy and said snap out of it. Rolling on the floor laughing Anyone remember that movie?

Thanks, y'all! I don't think the photo is in focus well enough. Those wild birds aren't too good at letting you take a sharp photo. Also, it's not really about plants. I just played around with some of my photos when I was trapped inside due to weather. There are so many people that make amazing banners and I'm not one of them!

But.......It is not fresh when I take it out of the freezer. It is just a frozen turkey. Hilarious!

I am a brat when it comes to my fresh turkey. I even tried to be cheap one year because I was tired of paying $30.00 for a fresh turkey. So Thankgiving I purchased two fresh turkeys ( the extra turkey was cheaper after thanksgiving) because I always cook a turkey for Christmas too. It was not as tender and the taste was not as good as the fresh one I had for Thanksgiving. My family even said "This does not taste as good as Thanksgiving" and asked me did I buy it from another place.

Well, I just don't know any better! I always buy my Thanksgiving turkey frozen as it is so much cheaper than fresh.

I know I did not know the difference either.

20 yrs ago my friend cooked a turkey and it was the best turkey I had ever had cross my lips. She is the worst cook on earth so I asked her who cooked the turkey. She will be the first person to tell you that you do not want to eat what she cooks. Rolling on the floor laughing

She received a gift certificate for a fresh turkey from a local farm so she did not have a choice but to use the gift for the turkey. We have gone and got our turkey from them ever since. We reserve the turkey for size we want and date we will pick up. It is cleaned and ready when we get there. They charge $3 -$5 a pound depending on time you call, if you are a repeat customer or if they really like you. The price is fluid. *Blush*

I'm sure fresh is best, but... true story --

last year (around September?) we had a frozen turkey in the freezer that I knew was getting out to the limits of edibility...

so, I pulled it out and thawed it slowly then pushed some butter up under the skin, then roasted the thing breast-side down for about half of the total time; and then flipped it over and cooked it for the rest of the time.l

Best turkey I ever cooked!!

Sandy that is the best way to cook a frozen turkey. It helps it not to be dry. Freezing takes the moisture from the turkey.

That was how my Mom taught me to cook a turkey. I bet your family did not say they did not want leftovers. That is how you know you have a good turkey when everyone still wants to eat more. Whistling
