Another tutorial for those appreciating more than one source of info. I like to check various sources for those tidbits common to all. Those items are usually true.

I found a website Don Smith created that has pictures of wonderful Itohs. The site seems to be inactive, hasn't been updated in 5 yeas, but it still had lots to look at and read. One of the pages contains links to articles he wrote around 10 years ago for APS bulletins. I found them interesting, thought others would, too!

Double thanks as when I went to the site I went looking for one of his called White Knight. No luck but ended up at Hidden Springs and they had both Christmas and Mahagony for sale for 2016. Got both plus two others I liked. Japanese form and one called Battle Flag. I liked the flower, it was registered in 1941 and very sturdy.

I copied and pasted it into the sticky Info thread. I started to put it there in the first place but since the website is obviously not being updated and hasn't been for several years I wasn't sure if anyone else would find it as interesting as I did.

Never underestimate the appreciation of information. Don Smith has bred wonderful plants and although it may be older information, it is still very relevant and interesting. Please do feel comfortable placing things that interest you in that Peony information sticky. That's exactly what it's there for😊

I just come across Russian peony site and was extremely surprised that some of the peonies they sell are not available in North America. I previously thought that the peony I got from my friend mom was Elsa Sass and I looking through their database I found New Era by Franklin....Looks very similar to mine - the petals are greenish color before fully open, tint of pink in the center and some tiny red marks on petals as well...Rather late, very short plant, flowers are simply perfect when fully open.
Does anyone grow Elsa Sass or New Era?

They have some beautiful plants. Names in English all else in Russian. Interesting.

I have Elsa Sass but it hasn't bloomed for me yet; I've never even heard of New Era before. The pictures are cool, don't have any doubles that open with a greenish tint.

This is a pic of Elsa Sass fully opened. I don't recall my Elsa Sass having a greenish bud before opening. I also don't recall it having a blush tint.

I guess my peony is closer to New Era from Russian website than to Elsa Sass... Now all I have to do is to find where did they get this peony and whether it is properly labelled.... Any info online is almost non-existent... Any thoughts who can have it as well?

We don't have many retail sellers. Our big growers tend to be wholesale and mostly sell stems not tubers. Fritz Creek might know something. I will check with them.
