I identified a volunteer growing in a flower bed here as a Lithospermum. I need to further investigate which one but am thinking it may be L. officinale. When I search for that in the ATP database it gives me Buglossoides arvensis and says L. officinale is a synonym thereof. My understanding is that the Catalogue of Life is the reference source for ATP. It, however, gives Lithospermum officinale as an accepted name and does not show it as a synonym of Buglossoides arvensis, see:

Buglossoides arvensis in CoL:
http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

Lithospermum officinale in CoL:

The other ATP synonym for B. arvensis is L. arvense which CoL gives as an "ambiguous synonym" but that's not really relevant to my question....

So if it is decided (I may post on the Plant ID forum but need to check my Flora first) that my plant is L. officinale (it doesn't exactly look like the ATP picture of B. arvensis either) what should I do if I want to add a picture to the database? Is there another reference that indicated the ATP treatment or do we need to change it to go along with the CoL?

This New England botany site says B. arvensis is "Sometimes Confused With
Lithospermum officinale":
https://gobotany.newenglandwil...

This Agriculture Canada import page lists L. officinale as similar to B. arvensis but the "nutlets" are different (on my plant they match the bottom picture which is L. officinale).:

Thanks.

Thanks for pointing this out Sue. We need to update our entries for these genera.
I've edited this entry for European Stoneseed (Lithospermum officinale) so your photos can go here if you confirm this is your plant.

I've also edited the entry for Corn Gromwell (Buglossoides arvensis) removing L. officinale as a synonym. The images, per the source database referenced in the captions, are of B. arvensis.

Thank you Evan. Still working on the species ID. I did post the pictures in the Plant ID forum so hope someone there is familiar enough with them to help.
