Thank you for the welcomes! In answer to your question chelle, I started with three tomato plants and one green pepper plant. LOL I jumped in with both feet, didn't I? After that, I found a sale at a local nursery. The sale was really good. I ended up coming home with a velvet cloak Smoketree, three pots of blue grama grass ( blonde ambition), and a magical fire hydrangea. I already had a couple peonies and some lavender. Over the summer I bought some Gaura, which I love. I live in a bungalow, directly across the street from the little Arkansas River, so I want to plant a cottage garden in front next spring. I am also very interested in butterfly gardening, along with helping save the bees and watching the birds. Smiling

I have been buying seeds right and left. I am going to try my hand at winter sowing both annuals and perennials.

After I posted my message this morning, I drove out and picked up a bunch of lime stone edging for a small bed next to my driveway. I am learning about lasagna gardening, so I've been collecting materials for that bed. I already have coffee grounds, straw, newspapers, cardboard and manure. I have been collecting my yard clippings in the compost pile, so I don't quite know what to do about that. I also will be throwing a ton of leaves on top. I'm going to need to move six little irises that I just purchased a few weeks ago and stuck in there for the time being.

I know I'm really going to like it here and I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
Thank you again. Patti

Sounds great, Patti!

When you build your lasagna bed you can just layer or mix in all of your ingredients. Thick layers or big clumps of lawn clippings might not be the best, but add a bit at a time in between other stuff and they'll be just fine. If you have them (and want to), you could also add broken branches, twigs, or even logs on the bottom of the heap for an even more self-sustaining plot.

You can read about this method, called Hugelkultur, here http://garden.org/ideas/search...

Or do a search for it in this forum http://garden.org/forums/view/...

Smiling Fun stuff...starting beds and getting things growing! Hurray!

See ya around the site! Big Grin Any questions, just holler out and we'll be happy to assist.

Photos!! Hurray! We need to see lots and lots of photos...before, during, after. We are photo-hungry gardeners. Just the mention of the word 'lasgana' and we start salivating for more photos. ( *Blush* Yep, I'm tired and posting like a fool; I've been working inside the house all day and am about half crazy with dust bunnies.)

I will send some photos then – but you probably don't want them posted here. Should I post in landscaping since I am doing some of that? Steer me in a direction… *Blush*

You mentioned Cottage Gardening...would your photos fit there? Shrug!
Honestly, anywhere you post photos...folks will find you. In a little while you will find a good fit. There are over 90 forums on ATP and I can only keep up with 6 or 8 of them. On the home page everyone can see the latest photos and the most current threads and people will find you. Thumbs up

Thank you, Marilyn. I already know I'm going to like it here!

Greene, I don't know if cottage gardening is a fit yet. Next summer it will be. Right now I really am in landscaping mode.

I'm watching Mynx watch the wren on the railing of my back porch. It's a good thing she's an indoor cat.

@Tuckersmom

Thanks Patti! They were our babies for 12 and 13 years until they passed away March 2014 and April 2015. They were bunny buddies together. Crying Sad Sighing!

They were lovable, adorable, sweet, spoiled, pampered and 'catered to' every day we were blessed to have them. Lovey dubby Hurray!

Cuddles, female white/black and Scout, male gray. They were mini lopped bunnies.

Marilyn, I'm so sorry you lost your babies. It is so hard. They are beautiful and I know that they live on in your heart. My heart dog was a Chow mix named Monk. Some family members stay with you, even though you can't see them anymore. Cuddles and Scout – I will remember their names. I wish I could give you a hug. I know that sounds strange, but we all need comfort from time to time.

Thank you. Group hug Group hug

I came up with their names, Scout, since he was such an explorer bunny and Cuddles, since she was so cuddly when we got her at 5 weeks. Scout, the vet estimated was approx. 10 weeks old when we got him.

The pic of my avatar is the pic we use on our computer screen main page. On the random screen saver are pics of them. Always in our heart and minds.

I'm sorry for your loss of Monk. Group hug Group hug
