I have just collected 20 Vigna caracalla seeds.

That makes 3 packages (2 p. with 7 seeds each and one randomly w/6 seeds) and will be sent anywhere worldwide. If you have some heirloom tomato seeds 'you feel the urge' to send me, they will be mostly welcome, but not excluding. I'm not necessarily looking for an exchange, I just want to share these wonderfully fragrant beauties. I grew mine from seeds and they are quite easy.

Although these babies are tropical, I know our Dave grows these and overwinters them indoors in a pot. I grow mine in an (app. 4 gallon) pot and leave them in the garden year round (I'm in an equivalent to a USDA zone 9b).

If you are interested, please Tree-mail me your address. I will post here when these offers are all taken.

Hi Janet!

I suggest you go back to your post, click on 'Edit' (bottom right) and delete your address. It's not safe to post personal information on internet.

You are lucky: the seeds I had offered were all gone, but this morning I had 'a revelation'. There was still a pod on the vine I was unable to reach, but armed with a rake I was able to bring it down. You will get your seeds!

Lovey dubby Oh my, that is a beauty and I've wanted to try this plant for a long time but just never got around to it. I'd love to try growing it from seed at some point in the future but we are moving next May and I've been trying to be really good about adding new plants to my collection right now as I have so many container plants already that will have to be moved ... it sure is tempting though!

Lin they are hard coat seeds and remain viable for years. I've successfully germinated 10 year old seeds.

Anne, thank you so much for that information ... had no idea they'd be viable for so long!!

Ursula, I'd love them ... and will gladly reimburse you postage! Sending you a tree-mail.

As said, these are hard coat seeds .. you'll get your best results if you break the seed coats on three sides of the seeds (the reason being that by breaking the coat they will start germinating before the coat has time to soften up and the cotyledons can become trapped inside the seed coat ... this is true of all hard coat seeds) .. I use nail clippers and take slivers off the edges - just enough to see white so go very slowly. Plant about a half inch deep. Keep starting soil on the dry side of moist and in the 70's if possible.

You're welcome! I just remember the first time I got mine and had a terrible time getting them to germinate.

Mary, I'm surprised mail was faster than my previous experiences this year.

I wish you a lot of fun growing these gorgeously scented vines.

Xerantheum, I was very lucky when I grew my seeds (many yearso ago, DG times), for they gave me no trouble at all. I had an app. 95% germination rate. But then, I'm in an equivalent to USDA zone 9b - maybe that was the difference.
