This little orchid from Australia should now start to awaken. In summer it is at my hottest windowsil just drying out and sleeeep, but with winter coming her season starts.
And, of course, it is the perfect moment to replant (and photograph). Obviously the plant pics I took in the past!

Regards,

Ruud

Ooh, that is lovely Ruud. What an elegant flower.

So the little hairy ball in your picture with the pen is the pseudobulb? They go dormant every winter, dry right out and then you re-awaken them in springtime to grow leaves and those very tall stems? Neat!

Please would you add to your personal profile where in the world you are? I gather you are in the southern hemisphere?

No and no.... just teasing.

I've added a personal profile.

I live in the northern hemisphere, in the Netherlands. The plant does not go dormant (as we from the north of course might expect) in the winter but it is a summer dormant species. (That is Australian summer of course, our winter).

The plant comes from Australia and the tough season for them in the dry hot Australian summer. The plants therefore prefer the 'cold wet' winter (which is probably still hotter and drier then the summers I am used to!). Compare f.e. with a well known species like tulips. Also they (and many other bulbs) sleep during the hot, dry period and grow and flower as fast as they can (the bulb is there to help them) in the short period (not freezing, not too hot, not too dry) any plant prefers. This Pterostylis is no exception. As soon as the rains (in my house artificial) are there it starts to grow and bloom.
