The buds seem to be greener in hotter weather. I would think it should be the other way around... but what do I know? Shrug! Hilarious!

Have you got any still showing off?

Yes, I have quite a few. I love the autumn colors. They seem to be more intense than the spring and summer blooms. I'll see if my camera will cooperate. It has been acting up lately.

I managed to take several pictures before it got dark enough to start activating the annoying automatic flash, which always ruins the colors. Some of these might look a little blurry because some of my roses are so tall by this time of year that I can only point my camera skyward and hope for something to be photographed well.

Aloha (the Boerner climber), Blaze of Glory, and Brilliant Pink Iceberg

Won Fang Yon, and one other picture that wasn't taken yesterday. It's a earier photo of Smokin' Hot, a new rose that came from Rosemania this spring, but I haven't added it to the database yet.

Those are beautiful! Many that are new to me, and some old favorites too.
How does Solitaire grow for you?

It's a fairly weak rose, but it's one of the own-root darlings I bought from Amity, so I knew in advance that I would have to nurse it along carefully to keep it alive. I've had it for more than seven years and it still has only two canes, about two feet tall. It does produce several lovely blooms each year, though. I wish I could have found one grafted because I suspect it's a rose that will never grow well on its own roots. I think Hortico was carrying a grafted Solitaire recently, but it has been years since I've trusted Hortico to send me healthy plants that aren't mislabeled.

Oh, that's too bad. I used to order a lot from Hortico at one of the nurseries I worked at. They had a lot of stuff back then that wasn't being sold in the US.

They were so good for such a long time, but then they started going downhill very quickly, and now I don't trust them at all. Some of the plants they send are miserable little things that look nearly dead or are completely dead, and even the good ones usually turn out to be something I didn't order.

In 2009 and 2010 I ordered several hybrid teas that were not being offered by any other nursery. When the orders arrived, both included Climbing Iceberg and Autumn Damask. They're not hybrid teas and their names weren't close to the names of the roses I had ordered, so there was no logical explanation for the mixup. I think they just had huge numbers of those two roses and were unloading them on customers who had ordered something that was out of stock.

I mistakenly skipped right past this one when I was uploading photos yesterday. It's Sir John Betjeman.

Zuzu, Did you ever get Climbing Iceberg? I've got it and could send cuttings after the first of the year if you wanted to start it. Mine's on it's own roots and does fine.

Yes, I got two of them from Hortico when I ordered those elusive hybrid teas. Big Grin Did you misunderstand me? I ordered hybrid teas and received Autumn Damask and Climbing Iceberg instead.

It was a gift from a friend who's no longer with us.. It's nice to walk around the garden and have plants that remind me of people.

Another beautiful display! My Sea Foam never shows that much color; she is currently pure white, but this spring she showed a little pink.

Just beautiful!
I have a friend that would like to find Monet. Do you think Rainbow Niagra might be a good substitute for her?
