Looking good Betty. I couldn't believe what I saw this morning as I went to let the chickens out....Barbara Barnette with a nice looking bloom open! It was 36 degrees here this morning. Blinking Guess she could be called a NFMO, Nearly Frozen Morning Opener Big Grin

September was far too cold (14C) for the time of the year and we had a total of 3 dry days... Crying
October made a good start with 18C and sun, sun, sun! Thumbs up

My seedlings enjoy the afternoon sun and are growing nicely.
I hope to get them a bit bigger before it gets cold Lovey dubby

Thanks for the pictures, its great to see good looking blooms still. I have all kinds of late rebloom scapes, and scapes on new plants. The few that are blooming are not opening well, or looking very good. I have many scapes starting that will be killed by frost. I think that I live in that border zone that is so close to having quality rebloom, but just a little to cold at night. Our lows are in the high 30's to mid 40's, highs in mid 70's to low 80's, this time of year. This semi-desert area has cold nights, even through most of the summer. I will continue, to look for plants with instant rebloom in mid summer, to extend my Daylily blooms. I have added many Emmerich Daylilies this summer, and a few of Norris, and Owens in hopes of seeing instant rebloom. Please continue to share, your beautiful blooms.

Char - Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Mayo - Looking good all those babies!

Amazing that some of you are still getting blooms! Since I live in a warm climate, I will be interested to see what blooms and reblooms here once my daylilies get settled in and get bigger. I keep thinking that I should have some late bloomers through the Fall.

I picked up Siloam Double Classic this past Spring. I can not believe how much it has multiplied. I already have a small clump. I plan to count the fans tomorrow as I am putting it and 48 others into the raised beds. I finally finished the 2 newest raised beds, so tomorrow is the big day that all those named/registered daylilies get planted. They've all been in nursery pots waiting patiently to be transplanted into their new home. And they all look great in the pots. I hope they like the raised beds just as much. We shall see .... It's in the 40's here at night, too, and my **Heavenly Angel Ice** is doing pretty good. I posted a couple of pictures in the September thread, but I may take some new pictures and post them tomorrow. I have 4 blooms on one scape out there right now.The cold weather is actually preserving the blooms for multiple days (I have blooms that have been open for 3 days now--crazy!). I've been pollinating the blooms just for the heck of it, although I'm pretty certain most won't make it through the frost. (Can anyone confirm or negate that assumption?) I hope I'm wrong, though, and that seedpods are more durable and will continue to develop despite chilly temps. I also still have a couple of blooms left on my **Royal Frosting** daylily which is doing less well than HAI, but still looks decent. Thumbs up

I have been told that my **Goose Bumps** daylily should rebloom in October, but it hasn't sent up a scape, so it might be unhappy having been replanted (twice) this year, or maybe it's just not a reliable rebloomer. Shrug!

Yes, I've noticed that too! What a very nice surprise that was! Hurray!
That way a few flowers go a long way Thumbs up

As I noticed that most of my DL's flowered in the summer (mid), I deliberately bought about a dozen mid-late and late cultivars to extend the blooming season in my garden. Whistling

Over here the nights are in the low 40's and days in the low 60's.

I did the same thing and acquired some late blooming daylilies.

Last Spring I saw a couple of early bloomers last more than a day and I know it was the cool weather I had at that time. That happens with other blooming plants too. My brugmansia blooms will also last longer and the blooms look so much better!

Well, heck .... I actually enjoy being out in the yard when the temps are cooler, too! I look and feel better and can handle yard work for longer periods of time! Whistling Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Okay Mayo and Becky, to be fair, your "cool weather" days are very different than ours! Hilarious! Yesterday was a high somewhere between 48 and 52, I think. My fingers were freezing and I could barely type until our thermostat got the house up to temp. It was drizzly and dreary, too. Definitely not a good yard day in our neck of the woods. And yesterday was our first day of the season having our heater on...so it's official now, I suppose. Glare

Libby - Your day sounded miserable. Ugh. So sorry to hear you are getting such cold temps. You have long winters, we have long, hot summers. Neither is good for gardening..... Sticking tongue out Sad

We have our first official cool day today. I went out this morning and it was in the 60's. So nice! But it is already heating up, so it was very short-lived. Glare

The past cool early Spring day that I was talking about was in the low 50's early morning and then got up into the low 60's. But no rain like you had (which certainly makes the temps even colder.) I had a daylily seedling bloom which was slow to open but it stayed open until later the next day. Kinda neat to see one remain open for more than just 8-10 hours before it starts wilting.

I honestly don't mind 50's weather outside if there is not high humidity or wind. Since I don't get snow here, it is often dry in Winter so it is usually nice outside. Rain and wind always makes it a little bit too cold for comfort on some days. I will admit that I am really spoiled living in central Florida. The summer heat is the only thing that makes it challenging at times. The coldest days are often for a very brief time and are easily bearable. And in my opinion .... nice! Smiling

DND I fired up our furnace for the first time yesterday also. Only going up to sixty today, but the temps should rise back to the low seventies later this week.
Mayo for zone 9a your temps are on the chilly side. I am sure the equator has something to do with it. Sighing!
DND Goose Bump might rebloom but at these overnight temps she might be going into survival mode. Try covering her overnight and take the cover back off when the daytime temp start to rise and see what happens.
Becky which late bloomers did you get? Inquiring minds want to know. Rolling on the floor laughing

Mike - These are the ones I acquired this year that are M-L or L bloomers. All new, so none have bloomed this year for me, but I am sure they will next year:
Judge Roy Bean
Sings the Blues
Lavender Stardust - This one actually did bloom the latest of all of mine, but not into Fall.
Calgary Stampede
Chinese Scholar

I have several also that are Mid-season bloomers with rebloom and/or extended bloom .... so those may also continue to bloom late in the season, too.

Becky, you're right. I think it's sort of a 'grass is greener on the other side' scenario, but I am definitely more of a warm-weather person. I love the seasons, but I'd love a lot less of them. In terms of temperatures, I'd probably be a happy camper if I lived somewhere in the Virginia/North Carolina/South Carolina area. I'd rather get excited about the occasional snow rather than the occasional warm day. Hilarious! I do have to say, though, when we had the winter-without-end a year or two ago, Michigan had a lot of sunny days where the snowy scenery was so serene and beautiful. ...I'd have rather been a visitor than a resident, but still...there is something to appreciate about it all, I suppose. And I think there is no one more excited for and more appreciative of Spring than someone who lives in Michigan and places further north. Big Grin

I can't say that the harsh, relentless heat of Florida would be easy, either. I do think that people suffer less from sickness in Florida, but no doubt there are days where the heat makes you feel just as immobile and unmotivated as an illness would. I guess we all just have to take the good with the bad. Rolling my eyes.
