I have a flower bed that is being taken over by Creeping Jenny, which came with the house. I need to thin it out, and the roots are horrible! I'm wanting to know if I have to remove every tiny piece of root, or will it regrow from the smallest of pieces? I'm getting the majority of roots out, but there are very small pieces left that I can't remove. Using a plant killer is out of the question.

I would appreciate any help!

Is there some reason you can't just live with it? I have it as a ground cover in a fairly large bed and just grab handfuls of it and pull it out to the ground, not trying to dig out the roots. That sets it back until time to weed again. Personally, I find it easier than some of my other weeds, and it gives me pretty yellow flowers and a soft green underlayment to the bed.

Ah well. I don't have any icky snakes or spiders so not a problem for me. Good luck, it's pretty tenacious.

Are all plant killers out of the question , or are natural ones OK?

@NJBob - wouldn't a few drops of vinegar do the trick?

All plant killers are out of the question. No way to localize the Creeping Jenny, even if I was willing to use it. I'm also going to replant the area right away, with bulbs. I really just need to know if it will grow back from the tiny roots that are left behind. I can get most of the roots, but the very small ones are breaking off.

Yes, it will grow back from any pieces remaining in the soil.

It's not as evil as many other weeds so console yourself with that as you sift the soil to remove the tiny pieces. Keep on top of it next year or you'll face the same battle time and time again.

Not sure if any is left. I did my best to remove it, but will have to wait until Spring to see if any of it regrows.
