I got this old peony rhizome from my elderly neighbor. I traded some of my lilies and perennials for it. This was in November of 2012 (I checked my online journals Green Grin! .). I am leaning towards Edulis Superba but I could be wrong. What do you guys think?

I think you are right Alex. Some of the blooms on google search are fuller. But mine are kind of young. Wishing they will bloom like the one in Adelman's catalog. Big Grin

My first thought was, yes - Edulis Superba. Then when Alex suggested Mons. Jules, I pulled up my own photos of the two. I had never realized before how similar they are!

Is your peony fragrant? Mons. Jules is VERY fragrant; I have not checked E.S. for fragrance.
The difference in color of my two photos could be a difference in light or Mons. J. could have faded a little.

Hi Linda,

I don't remember about the smell. Come springtime, I will definitely take a sniff and see if it is fragrant. I just checked my garden photos this year and it bloomed about the same time as Karl Rosenfield. Your MJE looks similar to mine.

I read that ES is very fragrant.

Thank you for the ID.
