I found a piece of sandstone in the yard an carved it into a heart shape. But it is really crumbly. So I was wondering if I could coat it with some sort of clear finish to help keep it from continuing to flake away? I think it would keep it from being sparkly though? any thoughts?

It seems like the finish would help.

I did google "how to preserve sandstone" and got lots of hits so you might want to try that.

We would love to see a photo of your heart Lovey dubby

I'd love to see your heart! I wonder how it would be to 'pot' it in resin? It would never deteriorate that way. There are small boxes of resin for sale in the hobby shops. I have some, but haven't used it yet. I understand bubbles are the hardest thing when using this stuff.

I recently noticed a piece of flagstone that was about 3ft by 3ft and it had a circle carved out of the center of it. It was being used as a garden sculpture. Now I'm tempted to get a flagstone and cut it out that way. I'd fill the center with a stained glass work. I'd have to situate it in a very protected place because we get high winds. Does that sound like it would work?

We've got as many tools as a hardware store, so I'm sure if I mark it out, my husband can cut it with something! We have things with diamond blades and that would probably be what is needed. We've cut flagstones to fit in a patio, so I'm sure he can cut a hole in one.

I saw a clear pourable epoxy countertop. Hard as cement..clear...encased wine corks..and another with coins in it..very clear. The fellow that ran the shop (flooring, counters) told me the countertop was filled with a pourable epoxy.

People try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved

Frillylilly, clear pourable epoxy is a good idea. I've used it a tiny bit, but my main trouble was keeping the bubbles out. I understand you can get rid of bubbles by breathing on them, or heating them with a hair dryer. I plan to "pot" some of my mosaics to see how it goes. I'll let you know!
