Hmm. I'm not entirely sure this is a succulent at all, so this may not be the best forum to ask. There's a Plant ID forum if you'd like to post it there or even the Houseplants forum would be more appropriate I think. There's the off chance someone has this particular plant and also grows C&S, but I think you'd get a wider audience on one of the other two forums.

I will try that as well. I have taken the plant to 3 nurseries. None of them have seen it before but all 3 said it is a succulent. Thanks for you help! Group hug

You're weclome! I'm not an expert by any means, but it looks more like a tropical houseplant or even an outdoor annual to me than it does a succulent.

I hope you can find the correct ID! *Blush*

Somehow it reminds me of a very young Polyscias scuttelaria 'Fabian'. The one I used to have had deeper green colored leaves, and a fat columnar stem.

When I got the plant it was growing outside at the VA Hospital. Blessed to live in California, it grows well in full sun and part shade here. The stock looks like bamboo in the picture but to me it looks like some kind of thick jade plant. The leaves are ruffled and kind of stubby... they feel like a Kalanchoe leaves.

Let's see in Spring how it looks like..maybe it will make blooms. Definitely not a jade plant. If it tries to make little plantlets at the edge of the leaves then it will be some type of kalanchoe. Hope it is not some type of knotweed.

I agree with Tarev. It may be a little easier to ID if it produces flowers. BTW, I saw pictures of a cane like stem succulent called dorstenia (I forgot which variety), but your leaves don't seem to have a point, as those in the photos of this plant do. So sorry I can't help ID your plant.

The mystery has been solved. I wrote to the Local College in their horticultural department and sent the same picture. It is a Kalanchoe carnea 'Modoc'.

Kalanchoe carnea 'Modoc' - This is an upright growing succulent to 3-4 feet tall with green glabrous leaves, 2-3 inches wide by 4-5 inches long that have blunt scalloped margins reflexed under. Showy pink flowers in terminal racemes rise above the foliage in summer. This plant is often found in shady neglected corners of older gardens where it survives without irrigation. The plants look better and will flower regularly in full sun with some irrigation. It is cold hardy into the mid 20s F without damage. This plant has been in cultivation in Southern California for many years.

Category: Succulent Family: Crassulaceae (Stonecrops) Origin: India (Asia) Evergreen: Yes Flower Color: Pink Bloomtime: Summer Synonyms: [Kalanchoe carnea] Height: 1-3 feet Width: 3-5 feet Exposure: Shade Seaside: Yes Summer Dry: Yes Irrigation (H2O Info): Low Water Needs Winter Hardiness: 20-25° F

::blown away:: It didn't look like it had the succulent leaves I'm used to seeing, let alone a Kalanchoe! *Blush*

I know! But the leaves are very succulent and waxy and so it the stem. Lovey dubby I am just happy to find out what it is. The only thing is, when I types in succulent on google this plant never came up. I spent hours looking and typing in every combination I could find.

I'm no expert, but I'm also not new to succulents either and I can't say that's a Kalanchoe I've ever heard of. Sadly, it doesn't help when there are succulents in the same Genus that look almost exactly alike (or in this case, look very little like a Kalanchoe). Hilarious! There is such variety in one Genus sometimes, it is hard to put a finger on IDs sometimes.

I think I will go with the experts. The hort guy also happens to be a customer at my store. Brought in a cutting of the exact same plant. It is what it is! Here are a few sites.
