Heart-shaped tomatoes are versatile. They are often meaty, have few seeds, taste good, make good sandwich slicers and sauce as well. In the past I have had fairly good results with Reif Red Heart, Kosovo and Anna Russian but yields have often been low.

In looking for others to try, out of over 400 heart varieties I found on the web, German Red Strawberry, Thieneman’s Australian Heart, Russian 117, Ponder Heart, Tsar-Kolokol, Ukranian Heart and Wes look interesting. Before I decide what to order for next year, does anyone have experience with any of these (or any other heart with a good yield) that you could share?

I've grown Orange Strawberry and really like it even though they are low acid tomatoes. I think they have pretty good yields if you grow at least 2 plants. I garden organically so I don't spray them and I have lots of pollinators. I also grow mine in grow bags so that they don't have to compete with other plants for nutrients. I've gotten my best results with tomatoes growing them that way.

Thanks, bx, I also grow about half of my tomatoes in grow bags or containers. Posted comments on Orange Strawberry say "meaty", "mild", and "sweet". I didn't originally consider this or Orange Russian 117 because my wife prefers red tomatoes in her sauce, but maybe I'll sneak one of these plants into the back of the garden for sandwiches!

One simply called Bulls Heart was great for me. It is solid and highly productive. ORange Russian 117 is worth growing just for its beauty!
