This, I have reason to believe, is 'Pacific Knight'. I got it this summer from Simply Succulents. I was trying to get 'Pacific Magic Night' but received this instead. My fault, not theirs. Alcohol may have been involved. *Blush* It sat in a little pot for a while before I decided to give it some real estate in the semp garden. This picture was taken today. Pictures of this cultivar on ATP show a quite dark red. This guy, actually, shows less red than a month ago. And the green was a darker olive green and has lightened up a bit. But my 'Pacific Shadows' and 'Pacific Devils Food' are as red as can be, showing no signs of lightening up. I'm not sure why, but I thought red coloration tended to increase going into Fall and Winter. Is there any truth to that? Or does each cultivar do its own thing regarding the timing of its red hues?

Oddly enough there was a picture of this same variety in the book 'Hardy Succulents' showing it ablaze with orange and yellow. Confused A month ago mine looked alot like its picture on the SS web site, which was olive green with strong red tips. https://www.simplysucculents.c...
There it states that it turns to deep burgundy in the Fall, but it seems to be headed the other way.
I begin to wonder if I have a cultivar mix-up. Either that or I'm just mixed-up in general.

Here you go Tim. The Fall photos show it as mainly green this time of year. http://sempervivum-liste.de/Se...
It will be interesting you watch it change colors. Keep us posted.

Opps, just went and looked at Simply Succulents web site and photo of their 'Pacific Knight'. That does not appear to be the correct plant.
I find nothing showing 'Pacific Knight' as having a green base with red tips. https://www.simplysucculents.c...

Here is what we have in our datase: Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Pacific Knight')

I am thinking @Patty may have the wrong semps also. Patty, where did you get your 'Pacific Knight'?

I'm splitting this thread so we can have a discussion on this semp. Thank you for bringing this one up Tim. Hurray!

Hmmmm. Mine, Patty's and the SS picture could all be the same (possibly incorrect) cultivar. In fact the SS picture and Patty's appear quite similar except that Patty's has reddened up a bit, but the red leaf-tip shape is there and so is some of the olive green. The SS picture looks like it would redden up in Fall/Winter to look alot like Patty's.
Mine, however, seems to be losing the redness while lightening up in the green areas. It's going the wrong way, maybe the shipping and transplanting has it seasonally confused.
I will keep an eye on it.

Did you look at the German site Tim?
And the other photo in our database, it was taken at Kevin's place. It is the correct 'Pacific Knight'.

I did look at the German site, although only just now did I discover to press the "bilder-galerie" link to see all the photos. There was only one I saw there that vaguely reminded me of either my photo, Patty's ATP photo, or the SS photo. And that was a copy of Patty's ATP photo, the exact same one shown above, but without the Fernwood copyright.
I did, however, see there alot of red leaves with green tips. The opposite of what I would expect.
The Kevin Vaughn ATP picture seems correct.

I have to believe that the German site shows a different cultivar than the one from my picture, Patty's picture, or the SS picture.

Yes, I agree Tim. Let's get Kevin to look at this topic.
@JungleShadows Kevin do you have any other seasonal photos of your 'Pacific Knight'?

I had an email exchange with Sue at Simpy Succulents. She says they've been dealing with 'Pacific Knight' for years now and she seems confident that they have the correct plant and picture. She agrees the colors aren't right but says it's due to their dim northern sunlight levels. Which is one reason they're moving their off season shipping from Wisconsin to Arizona. They expect the colors to be better when shipped from a sunnier locale, at least in the Winter. Still, I'm gonna keep an eye on this one.

Drab green... completely.
Update, I just took a look (it's cold out there). And the leaves have faint red tips which pencil down the edges about as far as the leaf shoulder. Much like the SS photograph except my green is fainter and drabber, and the red tips are much thinner and fainter.
Maybe it turns red in Spring.

When you get a chance take a photo. We will need one about every month, to follow it's coloring process. Thumbs up

Lynn and everyone, here are my thoughts... In the second picture of your sempervivum.list link, the plant looks flat and leaf shape different from the first picture which looks exactly like what you took at Kevin's. So I'm thinking maybe this one is a changeable type, in spring/summer during its red phase the leaves seem to stretch out, but during its green phase the semp closes up into more of a flat shape. The 2nd picture of the link also has the same leaf shape as the picture on Simply Succulents - maybe that red stripe is at one particular phase of color change, from the red center to a more green color? This is my idea anyway.
Let me know what other's think Smiling I have a version of this, and don't remember what it looks like, but this is why I'm curious I tip my hat to you.

@tcstoehr, I just tried clicking on the link to their store in the top post and see it's no longer a valid link. Looks like they might have removed that semp from their offerings.

Here's what mine looks like now. It seems quite consistent with SS's website picture, which BTW seems like a quite attractive cultivar. If mine colors up like that in the spring or summer I think I'll keep it. Although I quite doubt that it is in fact 'Pacific Knight'. It seems to me that SS puts their most colorful pictures on their website, and they would have used a solid red coloration if it ever happened. If it turns solid red in the Pacific Northwest sunshine, then I would think it would also in Wisconsin. But then again there are those regional differences and I am not exactly an expert at this.

Thumb of 2015-11-29/tcstoehr/26504d

Comparing this picture to the one at the top of this thread, it does seem to have reddened up noticeably on the tips, the back sides and along the edges down to the leaf shoulders. I am left to wonder if this plant is more red in the winter or in the spring or summer.
