Getting ready to build some honeybee traps. I'm thinking of making at least 5, five frame medium traps. These aren't catch boxes. A bucket and lid makes a fine catch container. What I'making is a small hive. This way I check weekly, they move in, I close up the hole with hardware cloth and move them into 8 frame medium hives.
I really want local blood in my hives.

Going to try lemongrass essential oil as an attractant. 4 or 5 drops on a q-tip seems to be the most common advice online.

There were scouts checking out one of my swarm traps today. They were in and out for at least 2 1/2 hours. From about 2 to after 5pm who knows they could have been there all morning also. My hive is north these came and went due east.
