I really not sure where to post this is but I am new on this site and am a first year gardener. So I love daylilies and would love to get any kind and colors. I have a handful of basic things to trade or can do postage. Also have Better Homes and Gardens magazine vouchers that are for a 1 year subscription each to trade. I do have one ditch lily but it doesn't really count lol.

Are you looking for registered cultivars or are you interested in hybridized seeds?

It's a little late in the year for daylily plants, atleast in cooler zones, but you can get seeds readily enough.

How much space are you trying to fill...or how many different plants do you want?

Well honestly I am just looking for any! No id, named, and or no named Daylilies. I am just wanting different colors of daylilies really! I thought now is the time people thinned out there plants? I am in the high desert of Los Angeles County in California. So we still have warm weather in day time. I have never tried growing Daylilies before, but I would gladly try seeds!

Lisa,

It can take 1-3 years to get a bloom from daylily seeds, so it's a bit of a gamble, but I've been told that it's well worth it because it's a lot of fun to see what comes out in the end. If you like surprises, seed is the way to go.

My recommendation is to resist going there for the first year or you may become hopelessly addicted!

I resisted going there for several months, and then I briefly got sucked into the madness that is the addiction of the auction house. I haven't let myself go back for awhile. Many of the daylilies listed on the lily auction ("LA") are newer, more ornate daylilies, focusing on teeth or on patterns. Personally, I am trying to stick more with daylilies that have great landscape appeal, so I like the daylilies with more solid color. While pretty individually, I find that many of the patterned daylilies are dizzying en masse.

You have definitely come to the right spot as the wealth of information you will gather here is amazing. Friendly folks willing to share advice from their trials and tribulations, and I'm sure some passed down knowledge. Oh and a lot are willing to share from the extra Daylily fans as you are finding out. I was fortunate to receive a few my self from a couple of real nice ladies and have another one willing to share with me in the spring. So as I seem to recall, I'm due to pay it forward. I will send you a tree mail and make arrangements for a shipment in the spring.

Welcome! Please be aware that daylilies are addicting! ( you have been warned!)

If you don't have a lot of experience with the wonderful world of daylilies, this is a great place to be. Also look into local daylily and/ or garden clubs.

Seeds are fun, I just recently sent a bunch of No ID (noid) seeds to friends.

I did not just get some daylilies seeds! I got a big package with already sprouted daylily seeds, lots of them!!
Also 3 Daylilies plants still in its potting soil!! Yeah
I was so so so happy to have received such a fantastic wonderful gift!!

I do not have the time or patience for seeds and the ones I tried, I ended up killing. I would recommend if you are new to dl altogether that you start with some cheap reliable oldies and see how it goes. Do not spend a lot of money, which is easy to do, and then end up killing them due to being a newbie and that would be a waste. You can always spend more money and time later after you get a feel for them, and for what you like and really want. I advise to order some cheap ones to plant right away (or whenever is time in your area) and then join a local dl or garden club, visit some dl nurseries if there are any in your area , order some catalogs, view websites and compare photos from different sources before making choices. Try to see some gardens in person before committing with your wallet.
