What did you have, and what did it end up looking like? Pics welcome!

The Portulaca amilis (Paraguayan purslane) I dug up & put in flower beds petered out weeks ago, but the undug plants still in the lawn still look great, blooming a bit. Did they get too dry from being so exposed, bare earth baking around them? IDK.

I'd put lots of pics in this discussion earlier in the season:

P. grandiflora (moss roses) 6-pack from a BBS was a bust & didn't live past the initial repot from pack to ground. A seed pack yielded 1 plant that also lived a very short life. May have just been bad timing with unusually heavy rains at the time. Do folks think this one prefers more xeric conditions than umbraticola? I'm left thinking so from this, and from how I almost always kill them in pots in the past, being the serial overwater-er that I am.

P. umbraticola (ornamental purslane) has been the star of the show, overall, though was outshined by P. amilis for about 6 weeks. I kept taking cuttings of them to spread to other spots, so none of them are very big, but definitely a winner of a plant, if one doesn't mind that it only blooms for a few hours in the early part of the day. Also, as far as plants being dug up by armadillos goes, it's OK to find this laying upside-down, roots baking in 99 degree direct sun, and flip it back over, pushing dirt back over what's left of the roots. It looked a little limp for a couple days, then right back to gorgeousness. I had some solid yellow, and some of this color. These seem to really like when it rains.

I ended up without any P. pilosa this year, but don't really miss it with P. amilis around.

You kept much better records than I *Blush*

I planted "yellow" (how's that for a description Whistling ) purslane in April and it bloomed beautifully until about the 2nd week of Ocotober.

Portulaca, for the past 2 years, comes up from seed, blooms, and quits. Not sure why as before that, it would bloom much longer.

I love all the vibrant colors and doubles that portulaca offers but it doesn't last as long as purslane - for me....

I agree with Vicki. I never have been a good record keeper unless I have a plant that surprises the heck out of me. Lovey dubby T
Purslane here in Phoenix stays open much more than a few morning hours which delights me. Phoenix is so hot and dry which must make purslane happy.

I have always loved any kind of purslane best but have also grown portulacca in various varieties.

I'm always impressed that you use all of the formal names, Tiffany!
