Thread OP

This is not Ananas comosus var. microstachys, but Ananas comosus var. erectifolius. The Amerinds derived var. erectifolius from the wild var. microstachys by selecting for spineless leaves with a high fiber content, which explains the erect habit of the plant. This particular clone seems to correspond to BR67, in the Brazilian and French pineapple germplasm collections. It was originally cultivated for its high quality fiber, however it is now an ornamental cultivar, sometimes called 'Chocolate' because of leaf color.

We currently have no database photos in the entry for Pineapple (Ananas comosus var. erectifolius) so hopefully if @SarasotaPatty determines that is the plant in her photo, she will submit a proposal to move her photo over to var. erectifoius.

Wow...now I'm very confused! Lin, how do I move the photo? Or should I just delete it?

Patty, you had 3 photos at that location for A. comosus var. microstachys and since you aren't sure which Pineapple it is, I submitted proposals to move all three pictures to the general entry for Pineapple (Ananas) They will go in the queue for a database moderator to approve them before they are moved over but you should get a system message once they've been moved.

... Great photos by the way! Thumbs up
