This was taken in the middle of October when I was clearing out weeds for a new batch of natives. I have several of these plants on this side of the house and maybe half of them had these funny looking shoots. Is this normal? The standard leaves are narrow. I put these in the ground early June this year, if I remember, and they did not flower.

I believe these are the Pycnanthemum virginianum species, but the company I ordered from sometimes gives me something other than what I asked for. (Nothing major, but once I ordered Joe Pye Weed and they gave me Sweet Joe Pye) I no longer have the tag that came with the plants.

If it is normal, what is it since it doesn't look like the leaves? Yes, I am ignorant about this. Smiling

Thank you for sharing those. I still have a lot to learn about the ways of plants. I would have thought any new leaves would look like all the others.

I have some slender mountain mint and mine did the same thing. First time I have had it in like 30 years so I forgot details. I said WT? Apparently it is quite normal. Weird huh?

My bad... Didn't check the foliage on the specific Pycnanthemum you were asking about...

Or read your question closely enough...

While your plant is definitely a Pycnanthemum... I don't think it's the slender-leaf variety.
Probably is the same as mine... which I only know as mountain mint, but is likely Short-toothed Mountain Mint..
so many similar types...
