Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Magic of Oz')

Now this is one daylily that I really love! I've only had MAGIC OF OZ for two years, but I really look forward to these blooms each year now. It is a dormant, and it might be a hard dormant, so it could dwindle down and stop blooming over the years as hard dormants tend to do in hot climates -- so just in case I bought a second plant this fall!

I love Magic of Oz. I have had it for 9 years and look forward to it blooming every year. Stats are pretty true in my garden and it does bloom for a long time. In 2014 it decided not to bloom, not sure why as it gets plenty of water and fertilizer. Its only downside for me is that it is very slow to increase. In those 9 years that I have had it, I have never had to divide it. I will keep it because I am partial to green throats.

One of my favorite diploids, love it!!! Magic of Oz (MOO) has been here a long time, I would guess 10 or more years and has earned a permanent keep spot on the staying-when-we-downsize list. The blooms are gorgeous with the cream to pale yellow base, pink eye and large deep green throat. Branching and budcount has been some of the best of any diploid grown here with as much as 5 way br and 25 to 30 buds some years at clump strength. MOO can bloom in a shady bed with only 4 - 5 hours of direct sunlight, to get the best performance plant in full sun. A favorite of garden visitors.

I too love this daylily. Though it is only 2 years old in my garden, it had performed extremely well this past summer. It bloomed and bloomed for a long time with only 3 scapes! There were so many buds on each scape. The flower colors were just gorgeous.

This is one of my favorite diploids. I grew it for about three years until needing to get rid of it due to having a very small garden with a hybridizing focus on tetraploids. But it was a wonderful plant with beautiful colors and a striking green throat. It was vigorous, multiplied well and seemed to stay in bloom for weeks and weeks. If I ever have space for diploids, this will be one of the first ones that I will seek!
