Joan senior is a great near-white with a nice, thick scape and bloomed well even though I transplanted it twice after purchasing it. It's a toughie.

It has a good deal of green undertones to the bloom, but gets a pretty, near-white color after a few hours of direct sunlight. It had a relatively long bloom time and the blooms have a good consistency.

It isn't my favorite near-white, but I am still glad I have it. It is very pod fertile and it's definitely pollen fertile. Aside from my Royal Frosting plant, it is probably my most fertile near-white. (It beats out Titan of Ice, Gentle Shepherd, Lyonnesse, my near-white-NOID, and possibly Heavenly Angel Ice.) Keep in mind, though, that all of these are first-year plants for me, so this all relates to toughness and fertility for first-year planting.

Joan Senior is one of those daylilies that I call my bread and butter daylilies. It just is such a good plant. Blooms forever it seems with no muss and no fuss. I am not partial to white daylilies - especially those so called whites that have a base color reminiscent of parchment paper (which is really a pale muddy peach). But Joan starts off white and stays white. Next to a pure white rose you can see that she's not really as bright a white as it is, but with no other whites around her for comparison she's white as white can be. She's in full sun and the blooms do very well even in our heat...........Maryl

Joan Senior is one of the longest blooming daylilies here. She is a tall daylily with a thick, sturdy scape and a large flower. I notice that if she is in a shadier area the color tends to become more like a pale lemon yellow, but still very attractive. I am generally partial to color but find that a few white or yellow flowers in the garden set off the colors and provide some vibrance to the overall composition. Joan Senior is a high quality daylily and would be a good addition to any garden.

Joan Senior offers a quiet elegance to the garden, a respite from all the colours that sometimes can be "in your face." I love her creamy and lemony shadings depending on the light conditions. She is a long bloomer, later in the season for me. Joan is a Daylily that I would always have in my garden.

Joan Senior usually blooms here in the last week of October or early November. It does not die back in winter and acts like an evergreen. It increases easily and flowers well. I have not seen any proliferations on the scapes. It has some rust resistant and I would rate it about 2. I have not hybridised with it but it readily gets bee pods. It reblooms often as late as February.

Joan Senior is my first daylily purchase along with Fairy Tales Pink. It is a reliable bloomer and increases well every year. Its white color and profusion of blooms serves as a nice backdrop for other daylilies.

Joan Senior was one of my first daylily purchases, and it was one of my top favorites for several years. Here in zone 8b, it thrived. It increased readily, bloomed up a storm, and was just beautiful. I couldn't imagine a prettier bloom. In the early morning it started out as a very pale yellow, turning whiter as the day went on. The evergreen foliage remained green and attractive all winter here.

Unfortunately, it was very prone to rust. I had an outbreak in March of 2021. I walked outside one morning, and all my Joan Seniors were covered with rust. I actually shed tears over this. I cut them back and treated them with Green Magic, and they did come back and bloom, but they kept getting re-infected. It broke my heart, but they were causing me too much stress, so I dug them up and got rid of them. I have replaced them with a few other near whites, supposedly with better rust resistance--I hope they are as lovely and prolific as Joan Senior was.

This picture was taken in 2020, before rust ruined my carefree gardening experience:

This one is from after the first massive outbreak, when the plants seemed to have recovered, but before subsequent rust attacks:

Joan Senior bloomed from July 6 to August 2 this year, a nice long bloom with over 25 flowers. She is crushed in with lots of other oldies on Upper Daylily Hill.
