This year I have a big pot of Cannas growing in my pond. I don't know if I leave them in the water all winter or take them out? Then if I take them out what do I do with them? I grow them just fine in the yard in the ground! Need some advice and help please.

Lisa, they might be fine in the winter water at zone 8b, but sometimes not. I am in the same zone and I take mine out of the ponds for the winter and put them in the ground and the following spring dig up a few to start a fresh pot in the pond again. Plus it gets stuff out of the pond so I can clean it up for winter.

Thank you very much for the information. That helps me alot. Is there any reason I can't pullout the pot and place it next to the pond so it will dry out. Then just leave it there for the winter?

To me it would come down to how much that canna meant to me. For me being in the same zone they are my most forgiving tropical and I admit to abusing them on a regular basis,

I see no reason at all that your plan would not work. Just make sure it is a well draining spot for cold wet temps . A good mulching around the pot would be an extra safe guard. But really in zone 8 I think you will be cool. I .have seen down to 17 F and cannas were fine in ground but never came back from frozen water. Miles may very.

Ok great, thank you very much for your help. I think I will take them out and let them drain out the water. Then plant them back into the ground like you do.
I don't want them to die but I am running out of room to put Canna's in! Maybe I can trade some, I only have one color or kind left. They still have green tops on almost all of them.
