Long winter days here and iris season is still to far away. I have been enjoying the thread "Honoring what we have". Lets try a thread where we post 1 picture each day and mention the Hybridizers name........giving them a little recognition. This could be a good mix of modern and historics.......

Paul, I would agree about having a digital camera. It's really freed me up to take lots of pictures and learn so much more by doing so. The hardest part is remembering that the delete button is my friend. Hilarious!

I have to go with our local hybridizer Joe Ghio, who has been under-recognized (IMHO) in the TB awards category. This is 'Brouhaha'.. notice the lavender, diamond dusted edges on the standards, and how the deep violet edges of the falls fades as it goes towards the center. There's a nice bright orange beard to top it all off. I think this one is a masterpiece.
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.

I agree that Joe Ghio hasn't won as many awards as his iris have deserved. I've heard that comment made here in Utah. the late Utah Hybridizer Melba Hamblen won a number of AM's but never won a Dykes. I think Brad Kasperak has won most of the award possible but not a Dykes..............Amen to the qualities of Brouhaha. It remains one of my top 5

I've been looking at quite a few Anton Mego irises lately. This is all new to me, but I like his themes. One that captured me was Slovak Prince, but this and others are equally as awesome to me

Gimme it and I'll grow it!

Slovak Prince is a fine iris. I love the gold trim on the standards.....I haven't Bratislavan Prince.

Barb I might be able to help you with Jeanne Clay Plank next summer if all goes well. I did thin it a bit this year.

It's been a good grower, but I shared a lot of it this year. If all goes as it usually does, I should have one for you, but you will need to remind me in the spring. Smiling

Thank you. Look in Winterberry Gardens for John & my plants. They don't have Elfin Shadows. I think you have to go to Kelly Morris for that one.

I lost all 4 pieces of Volcanic Glow that I got this year.

Patchwork Puzzle (T Johnson 2011)

It's at the top of my want list for the 2nd year in a row. I need to order this one this year (and replace Volcanic Glow).
