I'm stay-cationing this week! Had too much PTO left to roll all of it over into next year so I have TONS of time on my hands right now! I've been on Facebook far too much and have worn out my Amazon Prime Shipping....time to HOPEFULLY get a conversation going here!

I have a peony "Wanted" list. Every year I manage to get a few from that list (as well as lots I've never heard of before seeing them on a vender's list as well, to be honest) and add more. There are several that either haven't been available (or I'm not quick enough to get before they're sold out) that have been on that list for several years. THESE I'd jump through hoops to get! Does anyone else have a wish list like that? If so, what's on it???!!!

Mine is: Dreamtime, Mandaleen, Pastelorama, Sunny Boy and Tinka Philips.
Missed Sunny Boy already this year--it was available from Hidden Springs but sold out the first day. Of course, I missed the first day! There are a few others that have sold it in the past that I'm checking pretty much daily for the 2016 selections to be available. I've never seen Tinka Philips offered anywhere but the pictures of it are so beautiful....

So who else has a "Wanted" list of peonies that you've been drooling over for a while?

Liz, we are too hot for many peonies and I have limited space, but in a perfect world...

Amalia Olson is at the top of the list, the others are in no particular order.

To name a few. My wish list is never cheap And in the end, I would rather get one or two of these than a whole host of others. Many have shown to be good hybridizing material.

Nice list, Debra! I bet all with the possible exception of Amelia Olson would do well in TX, do you have any other double that bloom that late there? What do you like best about Amelia, the fact that it's scented or the beautiful, big flower? Do you have any other white doubles? Smith Family Yellow is beautiful as well. If you decide to get it you should check to see if it's available next fall from Select Plus, their roots were enormous! I didn't divide that one before planting; got 6 total from them fall 2014, 5 were huge! I split 3 of them in half before I gave up in exhaustion (Itohs are not fun divide, need a saw) and all of the big roots bloomed last spring, divided or not. All of your "Wanted" list are gorgeous!

Tracey, looks like our list overlaps! I actually got Pastelegance fall 2014 after falling completely in love with it at the 2014 APS Convention, ordered it as soon as I got home. Had 2 blooms last spring, boy was I happy that I didn't kill THAT one! My blooms weren't nearly as pretty as the ones at the convention, of course, but I have high hopes for the future! I had to look up Door Country Sunset, beautiful! And I actually deliberated between Vanilla Schnapps and Lemon Chiffon a few years ago. Lemon Chiffon won out just because it was available from another grower that I was familiar with while Vanilla Schnapps was only available from Solaris; I hadn't ordered from them yet so was leery of purchasing a high priced root from them. I've ordered from them since and wouldn't hesitate next time! I actually wanted to kick myself for that decision last spring. Lemon Chiffon only had 2 buds, one of which never made it past pea-size and the other was destroyed by hail. Vanilla Schnapps is advertised as a vigorous grower so probably would've done better. Pastelegance is growing very well here, I can see why Seidl's hybrids made you "Most Wanted" list!

So Tracey, 2016 APS Convention is to be held in Green Bay 1-4 June. Is that near you? Are you going? I've got my registration ready to mail in and I already have hotel reservations, last time I had to stay at a different hotel because it was booked up before I made final plans. I regretted not getting to stay there immensely--there were so many gorgeous peony arrangements around the host hotel that I didn't get to really examine and I'm sure I missed out on some wonderful conversations....This year I did the opposite, reserved a room before registering and getting airline tickets. My mother-in-law is joining me there from MI and my daughter from TN, should be a fun time.

Is there anyone else out there that plans to go to the 2016 APS Convention? Or any forum members who live nearby? I don't remember if it was on this peony forum or GardenWeb but someone asked if the competition was open to all and it is--there are several lectures, tours and events that are only open to people who register for the event but anyone can go in and see all of the amazing cut flowers that competed as well as the winners.

It's very funny that you should mention that Liz , about the APS Convention. I will be making it to the first couple of days, beginning with the hybridizing workshop at Solaris farms . I have also been helping with certain aspects of the planning. But with my daughter's high school graduation & my second daughter's birthday, it won't allow me to participate in the whole event.

The last Wisconsin convention that was here was much closer to my house. This one is a good 3 1/2 hours one way.

I only have five Peonies: Celebrity (not bloomed yet, it is only two years in ground); Raspberry Sundae; Taiyo (tree); a NOID that I have had since 2011, but hasn't yet bloomed (if no bloom next Spring, might have to rehome it); and one I thought for years was Festiva Maxima, but is most likely not. The last one has beautiful full white blooms, but nothing like the snowy-crisp images of Amalia Olson.

Hope you have a cool enough winter so you get blooms next spring, Debra, but none of the insane weather you've had for the last couple of years!

Hopefully I'll see you there, Tracey! I'd like to participate in as many activities as possible, both tours and workshops/lectures.

I don't know yet! I am looking forward to Solaris Farms offerings for sale beginning of next year. Probably won't get as much as I have run through most of next year's plant budget with auction wins from the Lily Auction in just only 2 months. Don't know how that happened!

Thinking about getting myself a tree peony next year - something like Yachiyotsubaki, Shima Nishiki or Hana Kisoi.
May be Japanese herbaceous Do Tell.
Pastelegance once the price comes down.

I'm with you, Karen. Solaris has several that are on my "Wanted" list. Have you seen the GW offerings this year? They have at least one Saunders peony on there already, don't remember the name but it's a single red. I don't think their entire catalog is finished yet and it is for spring shipping; I know a lot of people don't order for spring but it's worked well for me.

There are so many beautiful tree peonies out there, Alex, hard to decide which one to choose! It'll be interesting to see how fast Pastelegance falls in price--it's pretty high demand but seems to be more robust than most. I'd think it'd have a higher supply than some of the less strong growers. For anyone who can grow it optimally it's worth the cost though--an absolutely perfect, huge, GORGEOUS flower.

I might actually see Tinka Philips this spring--there's a tour of Sisson's Peony Gardens scheduled for one of the days of the APS Convention! If you do a web search for TP it shows up because there was a root donated there several years ago. I'm hoping to at a MINIMUM get several good pictures and see it it's as impressive as we think it is! And, if I'm INCREDIBLY lucky, get a lead on where to get a root!

I had to look up Langley, I can see why you'd have that one on your list. Color, size and the really early bloom time has to be a huge plus for zone 7A.

Actually, we just drove through Nashville on Dec 22 and then again on the 28th. My daughter decided she wants to go to college at UT, Chattanooga and we moved her out there over Christmas, drove her and most of her stuff out then drove back to CO. Nashville is such a cool city, loved visiting there last spring as well. We went to see Paramore (my daughter's fav band) at the Grand Ole Opry. Super cool since I remember watching the tv show as a kid, dad was a big country music fan.

Anyway, you'll enjoy it here, lots of really friendly peony enthusiasts! Glad you joined us!

Hi Caroline, just wanted to say Red Charm is worth the investment. I only got it 2 falls ago, hoping it blooms this spring. I saw it in person at the U of M peony garden in Ann Arbor, MI 2 springs ago and absolutely fell in love--beautiful color, form and size. Gorgeous flower!

Red Charm is one of the only peonies I have ever killed. Sad, huh? Killed it once and never tried it again.

And it is the one that the bloom weeks are counted against.

I am one of those on Pinterest who saw Tinka Phillips Pins and thought it was gorgeous. Some nursery needs to put it into production as there are quite a few people who are interested in having one!
Please do give us a first hand report on it.
Please let me know if you spot Langley for sale. Song Sparrow doesn't have it listed this year.
If you go visit your daughter in May at the end of the semester , swing by the Huntsville Botanical Garden. It is a real treat.

I recognized your avatar, LG! You're also the one on Pinterest that gave me the tip about Country Flower Gardens. None of mine from there bloomed last spring but I'm hoping for this next year! I'll keep that in mind about the Huntsville Botanical Garden. She's joining me in WI for the APS Convention so I don't know if I'll get to do it this spring but definitely by the next year! I'll certainly let you know if I see Langley, I know it was offered 2015 at Pure Peonies because that's where I found the pic online. I didn't notice it on any of the sellers who have their 2016 lists out now but I'll keep an eye out.

I try to use the same pic across all Social media. I just use my dogs names for personal reasons.
Yes, Country Flower Gardens has been a good source for me. I do believe they are crazy about peonies like we are!
