Here is a bowling ball I made a few years back. It is all glass and ungrouted, but it has held up well through rain, snow, freezing and 100 F + summers. It gets a lot of comments. That was a pretty weed that came up there. I think it's a sand verbena, but I'd love to really know the ID.

Thank you so much, Vicki. Mosaics are one of my loves. That bowling ball was made once before, and I didn't make it right. It was doing well it's first summer in the garden. During the winter I got afraid of the freezing weather, so I took it from the cold into our warm house. I heard a noise and saw the pieces flying off in every direction! At least half the ball was nude, so I tore it all off and re-made it like you see.

I also like to make mosaicked lizards and geckos to put around our yard and deck.

A big project I will start soon is an old full sized rocking horse I saved when my grand kids were tossing it. I want to embellish it to look like an old time carnival horse and put it in the garden.

Does anyone know why my pics get cut off? They were huge, but I cut them down to a good size and they're still truncated.

If you mean they all display as square images on the thread, that is part of the programming. Clicking on the image shows the original shape.

Ok, I was afraid they were just cut off and couldn't be viewed. I'm glad that clicking shows the whole thing. Thank you! I'm glad you like them! It is very easy to do this. I'm happy to help anyone who wants to give it a try. I also sell a few things on Etsy but I'm not sure that's allowed here.

It wasn't an original idea. I've see a few of them on the web over the years, so when the kids were throwing out the horse, I grabbed it. It's now been in our garage attic for a few years, so it's time to get it out and go to work. Smiling

Karen, I have been playing around with cement for a bit and I just broke a mirror yesterday so your post got my brain spinning. Thank you for your inspirational photos.

Neat! Cement or hypertufa things are perfect bases for mosaic work. Broken mirrors or china work great! I'll look forward to seeing pics of your creations.

I'm glad you're enjoying them. I really love making things, but my house is too full and I don't like clutter. It's nice to send them off to new families.
Thank You!

Karen, I have seen many great bowling balls but if I were a contest judge, yours is the best I have ever seen. It's simply stunning!

I see you live near me "sort of somewhere" so what's your address so I can come borrow it? Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing

I have always wanted to do something with an old rocking horse too but it's only in my mind. So get started soon so I can live vicariously through you.

Hi Becky, Thank you for the compliment. I really like this one better than the first one that was ruined.

We probably are near you in Phx, but my bowling ball is safely off in New Mexico. Green Grin!

I will probably start the rocking horse this Spring. It will take a while. I like to work on a lot of projects at once, so I can do different things. I can paint or frame or do other things while I'm waiting for glue to dry. You should do one too. They are beautiful painted or collaged, if you didn't want to do mosaic work.

Rolling on the floor laughing I'm laughing at both of you Laren & Cinta!

Karen, I can use GOOGLE to find that bowling ball of yours! Whistling I have a huge interest in Mosaic but have never done any. Currently in school finishing up my BS so no time. BUT I am always doing too many things at once.

Cinta, oh the files I have too! Who needs sleep anyway, right?
