Azamax is organic - I liked that aspect of it myself, Sheryl. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. nodding

Sherl - rooted leaves SELDOM produce growth. Yes, I have heard success stories but it depends upon how the leaf was cut from the main vine - if there was no growth point included you will never get a plant. I would toss it.

Best way, for me, to get the mealies on a compacta is to dunk the whole plant mass in some (mild) soapy water with a tiny bit of oil in it...called the Soap/Oil Method. I'll bet you could Google the recipe.
It's all about choices.

Last year was the first time my H.'krimson princess' bloomed and it began in mid feb. and had only 1 that bloomed over and over until i put everything outside.Last summer it had a good many blooms,by the end of the summer it had a bloom that never opened and is still there. If anyone has ever seen any thing like this or has advice on what i should do with it i would be greatful to hear it.The plant has started blooming again this year, right on time with last year.

here is the first peduncle it had that bloomed last winter inside.

Here is the odd looking buds that never opened and have hung around all this time. The dates on the photo's are correct.

It won't bloom now,so should i remove what's there now? I don't want to make the peduncle never bloom again. Shrug!

I understand they always bloom from the same peduncles correct?? So i knew not to remove the peduncles.I don't know the correct name for the stems with the bloom on the end but some of them have fallen off, out of the around 7 it had this summer 3 are left.It hasn't bloomed from that peduncle since forming these deformed looking blooms,it did bloom from that peduncle before.

So i should just leave the ones left to fall off by themselves so the tip of the peduncle doesn't get damaged?? The plant is beginning to bloom from some of the many other peduncles it grew this summer.I am curious what that particular one will do this season!

If you can notice in the picture where they are just beginning to form, only one side of it bloomed. Could this be from uneven amounts of sun??

Thank you very much for your advice!!! Smiling

Sometimes buds, pedicels and even peduncles will abort but I never remove them on purpose. The only pruning I do is to the stems if I want to root them for additional plants or make a fuller basket by planting the cuttings in with the original plant.

Jelinda: Your first photo shows both closed buds as well as opened flowers on the same umbel. I've had this happen on a few hoyas, sometimes a few buds will open and then maybe two or sometimes three weeks later the rest will finally open. But I've had hoyas that have sometimes aborted buds, peduncles and pedicels as well. I don't know why it happens, possibly culture issues, sudden change in air temp's etc. but they eventually produce new ones and bloom again.

Here is a H. kerrii and H. carnosa bloom that took awhile for all of the buds to finally open up:

@Alohahoya Carol is our very knowledgeable Hoya guru and hopefully she will confirm or correct my description and labeling of the flower parts in my photo's below.

The Peduncles are sometimes shaped like a little microphone and some folks refer to them as bloom spurs because they kind of resemble little spurs, but the correct name is peduncle. The Pedicels are the thin stems that emerge from the Peduncle; the flower buds/inflorescence emerge from the ends of the pedicels.

The photo's below are H. carnosa and H. merrillii where I notated and drew arrows showing the Peduncles and Pedicels. In my H. carnosa photo the peduncle is quite small and not quite visible but the H. merrillii photo shows different sizes and shapes of peduncles.

RIGHT ON, Lin...good descriptions!

Jolinda...it's my practice to NEVER remove anything from a peduncle at anytime...the plant knows what it can do and what it can't do and it may take time, it may abort, it may bloom... There is an exception to my rule...and that is if I am rooting a cutting that has a bloom forming/formed, I cut off the pedicels but NEVER the peduncle...

I hope this helps! Green Grin!

Welcome! to ATP!!!!
That little 'bella' is a cute plant. I've not tried growing it…Love to see the pics if you can load them. Are they fragrant?
I've got H.carnosa 'Hindu Rope', and an H. kentiana. I've had success with cuttings of the Rope, but I've not tried cuttings of kentiana, and I've not seen it bloom yet either. It's a fairly new one for me. *Blush* I'm kind of a "newbie" to the world of Hoya. Smiling But always keeping my eyes open for new ones! Smiling

Hi Cathy, Welcome to All Things Plants from me too! That's a cute bella you have there, great growing! I had a Miniature Wax Plant (Hoya bella) once but it ended up dying ... possibly one of a few that got left outside during a winter freeze. I lost a few small and some very large hoyas that year! Thumbs down

Happy ♥'s Day Everyone!

Hoya kerrii, the "Sweetheart Hoya" blooms for me in July but since it's Valentine's Day, I thought the leaves were appropriate ...
