I havn't posted on here for awhile but i want to give you an update on my copper rose.



over the fall it suckered more from where the weed whacker got it, however it got blackspot really bad and most of the leaves fell off i sort of forgot about it with fall and everything.


then it got cold over thanksgiving and we had snow but the snow didnt last and the weather is very mild for this time of year I live in st paul, mn, zone 4/5. temps yave been playing with 40 and then dropping.

i got some hardwood mulch this december and mulched a good 3 or 4 inches inside the protective fence i constructed to stop the weed whacker from damaging it more. i see live cane but it has black spot i can tell/ i think the canes get it too. next spring i will take away the fence and enlarge it


i was told to spray organic blackspot control on it come spring if it lives. Can you cure this in roses would milk work too i was told that is a better solution. overall consittering whats been done its doing remarkably well. come spring i will check and see if it made it.

I've had no luck with milk controlling black spot.

Austrian Copper is quite famously susceptible to black spot. It's even been called the original source of black spot and is blamed for introducing black spot to our modern roses.

I know but i will see how well it does I mulched it well but late its got good cane on it though

Zuzu, that is fascinating! I assume it is also the genetic source for pigments we see in many modern roses too.

Probably I would guess I know its quite a looker it has to be given all its other flaws ( grows big spreads has blackspot )
