The thread "Our Orchid blooms in December 2015" in Orchids forum

We had a wonderful year sharing pictures and stories of our Orchids here with friends and lots of newcomers, who then rapidly turned into friends. There were many excellent discussions and lots of shared information.
And now we raise our glasses to a toast:

Let me start with my Brassavola Little Stars, it wasn't easy to wait until almost all buds were open. But, when I saw the many spikes this year, I knew it was going to put on a nice Show, so, I waited on this one.

Cattleya percivaliana 'Summit' opened three spikes, right on schedule, it always blooms around Christmas.

My noid Cattleya is almost done opening, but the first blooms are starting to droop.

I waited for days to get some sunshine to get a nice picture of Laelia autumnalis v. atrorubens. I missed the five minutes of sun today. Tomorrow seems to be the beginning of a whole row of sunny days. Here is the spike anyway!

And this Dendrobium kingianum stayed outside until frost this year again and has lots of buds. I keep it right at the greenhouse entrance, the scent is great when you walk in.

Magnificent show for the new year, that Little Stars is magnificent. I'm hoping I'll be able to keep mine going this time, as I keep losing them to black rot before they really get nice. I also have a Den. kingianum that is out in the garden having a winter break, if the cool weather makes it down here this time! Saturday . . . we'll see!

You Little Stars will be fine! I had to clean up a few "white dots" on a couple of leaves on mine....

Happily I seem to have a handle on the insects for now, but every day I'm cutting a leaf or two with big, black spots. I now have an arsenal of fungicides and am going to try a regular spray program for this year, to see if I really can control most of those fungal woes.

Tomorrow seems like a timely day to start, don't you think? January 1st. Wow, another year!

I wonder why it seems like time goes by so quickly as you get older. I know, busy as I stay, it is nothing compared to when I was younger and yet the months just fly by now.

Ursula, love, love, love Little Stars, I have such a crush on that plant and I have no more room in this house for orchids.

what???? no room for orchids? Time to get rid of that huge couch or dining room set!

I was just thinking how long I have that plant. I realize it was more than 20 years ago at a visit to Waldor's greenhouses in South Jersey.

My no ID Catt now in full bloom (the lip color changed to more yellow orange now) and as you can see on the lower photo, there are new buds coming out from the sheath. Hoping for a longer warmer weather.



And my no ID den that blooms non-stop.

Yep, I get the feeling that my glass dining room table will be hosting a bunch of orchids by Sunday. We are scheduled to get cold, and rain!! That will be a drastic departure. The orchid spa in our bathroom will be filled up tomorrow, too.

Ursula. Oh no! I hope the buds on my Catts will not fall off, hey are on the Oak tree so they stay outside rain or shine.

It probably won't get too cold for a Catt, Gigi. The oak tree will also protect your plant somewhat, too.

While out spraying I discovered another new bloom - Lc. Renate is going to town again! Two flowers open on the first spike, and a second spike coming along, too.

Melissa, congratulations on getting OrchidWiz. Once you get the hang of it, you will love it. I just loaded version 12.0 and it took forever so don't fret. It will cost you $100 every year to get the new version and the quarterly updates. Such a nice gift!

Elaine, cute Renate. To tell the truth, I'm ready for seasonal weather. We were all sitting around in a neighbor's lanai last night in shorts and t-shirts with fans running. It just didn't seem right.

I hope so too. But my oak is 10 years old but we kept it short and small, just slightly bigger than a beach umbrella. The builders planted it so close to the house that we don't want it to grow too big.

The temperature is forecast to be 45 tonight and 46 tomorrow...
